VIENNA, Austria(AP) Police have found a woman missing since 1984, who told authorities that her father had kept her in a cellar for almost 24 years and that she had given birth to at least six children after being repeatedly raped by him.

The 73-year-old father was taken into custody, said Franz Polzer, head of the Lower Austrian Bureau of Criminal Affairs, on Sunday.

Authorities found the woman Saturday evening in the town of Amstetten following a tip, Lower Austria police said in a statement.

The 42-year-old woman told police that her father began sexually abusing her when she was 11 and locked her in a room in the cellar on Aug. 28, 1984.

During the 24 years that followed, she said she was continually abused and gave birth to six children, the statement said. She said she gave birth to twins in 1996 but one died several days later; police said they were investigating.

Police said in the statement the woman appeared "greatly disturbed" psychologically during questioning. She agreed to talk only after authorities assured her that she would no longer have to have contact with her father and that her children would be taken care of.

DNA tests are expected to determine whether the man is the father of the six surviving children, according to police.

Police said three of the children were registered with authorities and lived with the grandparents. The other three children were apparently held captive in the cellar with their mother, Polzer told reporters in broadcast remarks.

The Austria Press Agency said the three boys and three girls range in age from 5 and 20. One of the children, a 19-year-old woman, was being hospitalized in very serious condition, according to Austrian broadcaster ORF.

So she was put in there in 1984 when she was 11 but she is 42 now?

Thats an interesting time warp..

Ohh my creative mind has thought up stories like this before I wonder how many more are out there..

Sick
Sick!
SICK!

I've heard of a couple stories similar to this,
Parents locking children up and such,
But not to this caliber of wrongness.
That man deserves to die.
I can only imagine how genetically messed up those children are,
And how disturbed the guys' daughter is after all of those years of cruel and unusual abuse.

11 is the age when the father started the abuse.

1984 is the year that she was thrown in the cellar.

There was a period of time between the two events.

EDIT: Oh wait, I got confused. Hyper's right. WTF?!

As for the story. 0.o Omg, that is just wrong.

I don't believe the mother of the locked up girl. I think she knew. I think she to is in it knee-deep.
The strangest thing about it, is that the three children\grandchildren () who were "adopted" by mr. and ms. Fritzl were in excellent health and got good grades at school. And nobody ever gor suspicious! What bad luck for the three locked up in the basement for nearly all of their lives. Never seeing daylight!

Man, this story is just sick!

I've heard of stories like this before, it's tragic. She's lucky she got out, and can have a chance at a more normal life now, though I'm sure she'll never fully get over the damage something like this would cause. I remember seeing a documentary once on feral children, and they talked about a girl who was kept in a cage in her room for her entire life. When authorities found her she was small for her age due to the cramped quarters, she didn't really speak or seem to understand spoken language, she was a mess. I don't know how you can do that to someone, it's just despicable.

As much as I agree with you on this subject I don't think he deserves to be in much pain as possible. That would be inhumane
