I use more XP, sometimes Vista, Mac, and sometimes Fedora Linux
Linux is more for Internet people And Hackers
XP and Vista is more for normal people who only use PC for games work and that stuff.
And Mac is more for Game creator, audio/video editors and better graphics, and in some cases for normal People.
Windows - For Normal or Beginner People
Mac - For People who work with things of Graphics or audio, Intermediates
Linux - For Expert people and Hackers, Advanced
I personally like more Mac

I like windows xp, but I use Linux on my laptop, which I don't find horrendous in many ways, though it doesn't support anywhere near as many programs as windows does.

More often than not, I just use XP as my main OS.
I do use Ubuntu periodically, and I run the Server edition on my server.

Ubuntu is good, but its a bastard installing stuff (especially if your console is so retarded it doesn't even understand the command "make")

It's not that hard to install things. Use Synaptic if you have issues with the command line. Or, Apt-get.
You don't have to build your packages, unless there isn't one already pre-built.
The terminal isn't retarded.
You have to install make and a few other things first.
Open up a Terminal, and type:
sudo apt-get install build-essentialAnd you should be able to use make. :)
http://www.getdeb.net/ might be a good place for you to look if you want software that is either not included in Ubuntu, or is an older version.
You may also have to enable the "Universe" or "Multiverse" Repositories for some programs to show up in Synaptic and Apt-get, which you should be able to enable within Synaptic, from one of the menus, it'll say "Repositories."
