View Full Version : Suing God For Lightning Strike

In the States, a farmer is suing God for harassment, physical and mental assault. According to the farmer, he was struck by lightning three times in eight years. He believed the chance of getting struck by lightning is 1/600,000. He claims that he goes to church every Sunday and although he broke several commandments, he does not deserve the harassments he received from God.
My Commentary
This case is so funny the first time I heard about it I was literally ROFL. Firstly, it is impossible to get God in trial. How the hell are you suppose to send him a letter saying you are suing him for harassment? I guess you can pray and hope he comes down. Secondly, if God was found guilty, how are you suppose to give him a punishment? Send him to jail? Whatever, you get the point. Anyways, I guess that's a laugh for you and a sad realization of how stupid and desperate people can get when they need money or sympathy.

Lol post the link to that because I want to see it :D
Can only imagine how a farmer is going to sue god for "harassment" seeing as how technically lightning is in the whole science category and if he got hit by lightning, wouldn't he kinda you know be DEAD???

Actually, as a statistic only 1 in 4 people hit by lightning are killed. There was a man, Roy G. Sullivan, I believe, who was hit by lightning 7 times in his life and never killed by it. You can trust me on this stuff because meteorology is one of my great interests.
As for the article, this is ridiculous. Nothing is ever going to be done about this, so why would this guy even bother?

lol just let him waste his money.
He wouldn't even waste his money since no lawyer is going to help him and the court is just gunna kick him out before he even start talking.

Well... there could be something with this. First the US Government believes there is a God... its on your money is it not? "In God we trust". So first we know he exists.
Second sue a church, as they claim to be his representitives. Of course realisticly this will amount to nothing, but its worth a try.

Well you can sue a corporation. You can't see that. Think about it, you can never see a corporation. You can see people acting on its behalf or you can see items, properities and logos it may own but you can't see the corporation itself, yet you can sue it. It is still a legal entity.

But is God a legal entity?
When you sue a corporation, the corporation as a whole is who pays the money.
But "God" isn't a legal corporation. Each church is its own entity, but the church isn't who the man blamed for being struck by lightning.

No of course God isn't a recognised legal entity, I am just pointing how the notion of suing God isn't such a far out thing.
When you sue a corporation, the corporation as a whole is who pays the money.
Technically its the corporations agents who pay you the money, on behalf of the corporation.
What I am trying to say is a Church, say the Catholic Church who claim to be God's representitives on earth, can in a similar form be sued by acts carried out by God.
Again nothing would ever come of it but I find it interesting to think about the logic behind it.
