Since 1996 medicinal use of Cannabis has been legal in the state of California, violating federal law. Pharmacies that vend and distribute marijuana and cannabis for medical use are legal under california state law, and are fairly wide spread. This means that state and local police are not aloud to interfere with their activities because they are legal under state law.

However, because it defies federal law and possession and sale of marijuana is illegal according to the United States federal government, DEA agents and other federal agents are still legally permitted to disband the dispensaries, confiscate their files and products, and possibly arrest the pharmacists, denying hundreds their doctor prescribed and necessary medicine.

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) has introduced a bill into the house of representatives to stop these DEA raids on dispensaries. Do you agree with him?

Yes, I do, because not only are marijuana laws out-dated, but states rights should have some meaning. Also, the DEA is damn corrupt; seriously, look at all the legal drugs out there.

Wouldn't this be tantamount to full legalization? Not that I'd have a problem with that, but why not call a spade a spade?

Just because something is medicinally legal doesn't make it fully legal. You don't see everyone shooting up morphine and popping Vicodin. It would be a logical fallacy to assume that full legalization will soon follow. I'm sure there will plenty of politicians making that argument, but politicians aren't known for being particularly logical.

Sorry, I didn't mean full legalization of all marijuana. I meant de-criminalization of medical marijuana at the federal level. Isn't that essentially what this would be?

In the state of California, it would make it ACTUALLY legal, not just kind of legal. And I don't see a problem with it.

This is kind of funny since in english we're doing a like "convincing" essay thing and it can be on lots of different topics like legalizing marijuana, sex ed, mcdonalds, and etc.

But I think they should just legalize it in the US all together because then the government could put a tax on it, people would stop selling it to their friends, marijuana is a hell of a lot less dangerous than most OTC drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. And its like RIGHT NEXT to impossible to over dose on marijuana, you would just be REALLY REALLY high :D

They can't really tax it, which is why it's illegal mostly. People would just grow their own.

But its definatly a topic to be looked at. lets be serious people. its just....pot. There are Many worse things that they should be spending tax payers money trying to stop rather then wasting it trying to stop people from smoking it.
