Hi,

I am the Assistant Forum Manager at a nice forum and we are looking for Post count indicators and such. I was wondering were the Admins got the ones they use here, did you guys make 'em or find them on the net, or what?

Thanks for your help!
Brandon

The Govteen Network uses them (govteen vt and a few other sites) I think someone made them when the forum was started up, not sure though

I had a site that documented what Gov sites used what faces. Many of them use the same basic set, but some had their own images in addition to the basic ones. Most of the faces were created by Sam Alexander, one of the founders of the GovTeen organization. I would call most of them © GovTeen, Inc. or copyrighted by their respective creators.

Since VirtualTeen is part of the Gov network, we are able to use the most of the ranks you see here. I believe that Ben created his Admin face. I created our Global Mod face.

On GOVTEEN, you can like make your own face or something, i don't like GOVTEEN

You make one yourself. :P

We only ever had I believe one person who did it. You have to have over 5000 posts to do it though.

K, a question, Alex, how doth one createth their own faceth? :P [I know I don't have 5000 posts yet, and no, I don't plan on spamming my way up to 5,000 posts by the end of the month, but I'm wondering where one would create their own face and how one would create their own face].

How and by what means I don't think matter and I don't really know, I have never had the need to make one myself. But it must be based off the our current 5000+ image.

I mean like, would you create it on the site? Or would there be a link in like the User CP somewhere that would take you to a place where you can customize your face? Or what??

You would create it off site in your on time etc., the only thing we would do is put it as your post count image. How, where and what you do is up to you.

Actually, I believe Kevin did that, Alex, but that was way back in the days of phpBB. When we switched to vBulletin, we were basically like "Uhh... We don't know how we would go about this, sorry." However, Kevin used his custom face as his avatar, so he kind of had two faces.

At any rate, I don't believe we would be the ones to say that you could or couldn't use them. Since the author of most of them (and the basic concept of them) passed away, it's quite a predicament.

Hmm.. Well, wait just a second. It's not illegal if you do not claim the material (or concept) as your own and cite where the material (or concept) came from.

This means that you should (in theory) be able to use the faces legally if you put a visible banner on the site that will show up on every page (like in the header or footer) that says the following: Most rank images and concept are property of GovTeen, Inc. (http://www.govteen.org) and were provided by VirtualTeen.org (http://www.virtualteen.org).

In time, we may make a page that has all the specifics (sort of a come-back of GovFaces) and we may request that you change your the banner to link to the informal page.

If you agree to this, and unless another administrator says otherwise, I think you would be able to legally use them. :)

Oh thats neat! I will talk to the head admin and see what he thinks! Is there a page were we could see all the faces? Or somewhere were we could get them if we agreed to this?
