I'm not really much of a computer person, but I'm gonna buy a laptop soon and I was just wondering what do you think is better Intel or AMD?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a Computer with an Intel Processor

I got AMD for my laptop, BIG HAIRY MISTAKE. I can't upgrade my RAM to more than 2GB now, GREAT!

The processor does not determine the RAM capacity. Intel has superior technology right now, especially for laptops. My new 3GHz Core 2 Duo idles at three watts and maxes a bit above 30. This is a 45nm revision core, mind you, but once they're mainstream you should see even better performance and battery life. I suggest waiting until later this year when the 45nm revisions are mostly being used.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Booo. AMD FTW!

It kind of depends on what you're using it for. Mainly, AMDs have faster bus speeds, so they are good for gaming and the like. Also, AMDs are cheaper and can overclock way more, although I guess you can't overclock it since you're not buying your own. I still recommend AMD, just because I'm somewhat of a fan-boy.

AMD processors do not overclock better and their gaming performance is far inferior to Core 2 Duos. I like AMD, but they've dropped the ball. There's no way a 100+ watt dual core can overclock better than a 30 watt dual core. The new Phenom line of Barcelona processors aren't the best for gaming, either. The clock speed is too low and they're not very overclockable. Also, he's talking about a laptop, so Intel's 45nm chips will provide the best battery life. If he can wait until next year a new architecture will be out that supposedly improves efficiency even more. DDR3, which uses less power than DDR2 RAM, may also be mainstream, too.

The fan boys hopes are crushed by the evil popo?

I lean on the intel side purely based on experience

I like AMD purely because they're easier to get and cheaper where I live

My custom desktop has AMD but if its for a laptop I'd recommend Intel

AMD is the best and not by opinion wise its by studies the only reason people like intel is because they are more popular and cheaper AMD are a little bit more pricey but they can stand alot of heat I have a AMD Athalon and it is awesome and my computer runs great go with AMD BUT DO NOT GET AN INTEL CELERON!!!! those are the cheapest and worst processors out there I know I build Computers

Riight.

It depends on the task you're preforming, for one thing. Intel processors will beat AMD processors in some tasks, and the opposite is true with other tasks.

The Core Quads Intel is putting out right now are better than the AMD Phenoms, hands down. Go look around at benchmarks, and whatnot. The early Phenoms were also plagued by a bug that caused them to randomly lock up.

Also, Intel processors, in general, are MORE EXPENSIVE than AMD Processors of comparable performance. Again, go look around.

The competition that AMD was providing up until the some of the Core 2 Duos and the Core Quads came out was at par, or above the Intel Competition, and cheaper. Intel finally figured things out recently.

Please provide these studies. I'd like to see them.

Also, Athlons are quite old. The Generic Athlon processor went out of production years ago. The Athlon XP and X2 are still around. Maybe you're talking about those?

And, there are a lot of AMD Processors that run much hotter than their Intel counterpart.

A thought to consider in the future when posting like this, is to provide supporting evidence for your claims, and use correct spelling and grammar. It generally makes your opinion, even if it's completely absurd, more believable. :)

I can agree with you on the Celeron thing, Though. They suck. :P
