View Full Version : phones suck

there are gorillions of phones available now but somehow they all seem to suck bigtime in some way. every phone I've ever had has had these little annoying drawbacks of their own.
the Jobsphone is pretty nice and has an ultra-polished OS and, quite frankly, the best app store due to Apple being brown-shirted ultrafascists & protectionist not unlike yours truly. although I dislike the Playskool design of iOS, it's definitely the most usable and the App Store isn't clogged to the brim with shitty shovelware from China and Iran (cough Windows Phone cough). but then you get to the checkout and have to fork over your life savings and a couple of limbs. no memory card slot, no removable battery and it's fragile as fuck.
Windows Phone has no apps and is basically Microsoft's alpha-release of Skynet 2.0 the way it gathers your dox. most Windows phones have SD card slots and removable batteries...but no apps. the OS is pretty smooth and lag-free much like iOS, except it has no apps. you can have any browser you want as long as it's Internet Explorer.
Android sucks. it's terrible and mickey mouse all around. app store is pretty bad, a handful of decent games if you have a high-end phone. its customization abilities are impressive but seldom outweigh its general shittiness. it was the case for a while that most phones were almost unusable without a custom ROM. Nexus phones ship with pure Android but then you give up an SD slot and removable battery.
in conclusion, it appears that the ultimate phone of phones that combines all of the good stuff and none of the gay drawbacks can't/won't happen until I become dictator and invalidate a ton of patents

What phone have you had the best experience with overall?
And I agree, they suck. Especially Windows, that's like the Toyota Prius of phones, pretty much an embarrassment and the only good features are ones we don't everworry about. Android does have flaws, however I am using a Galaxy Grand Prime, and it's been very good for me. Great battery life, good display, removable battery, the only real drawback for me is the fact it come standard with 5gb memory .

my old Nexus was good for a while but it couldn't keep up with Android development and started becoming laggy to the point of being unusable. I'd say my current Lumia 635 has annoyed me the least (so far) but did I mention NOAPPZ?

Don't gotta mention NOAPPZ :P
And yea, they Windows app store really is a joke. I actually did have the 360, and although it wasn't too bad aside from all the flaws, it was a decent phone and I do like some things about it. Now I have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and I have to say for what it cost it's a really Nice phone

I'm one of the rare few people who actually doesn't have a cell phone. I see the uses of having one, but all I really see people doing on their phones around me is just burying themselves into it and ignoring each other.
That and all the money grabbing f2p games that are near clones of each other that companies love to make, eugh.
Plus getting a phone in general just seems like a hassle. Theres the whole Android/IPhone debate which I avoid.
I wouldn't say phones "suck" persay. But if its something that literally controls your life, you're probably depending too much on it.
I also am not a fan of the speed that phones come out at. By the time you've gotten a new cell phone, the next "IPhone/Galaxy two-hundred X plus edition" is already out, and all the sudden yours seems slow for some "reason." That's what really kind of sucks about phones for me.

I just use my phone for basic stuff like calls, text, internet, gps which is a lot right there for a cellphone imo. I mean the flip phone and Blackberry days weren't all that long ago. So far I haven't had an unction to start cramming it full of apps so that I can spend even more time on it.

I have to agree. And I seldom agree with phuckphace. Cell phones have really gone to hell.
My first phone was a Nokia, with symbian. Limited, but I loved it. Of course, I was 12 years old, anything would have been awesome. But when it broke, I got Nokia again ... but now Microsoft owned it and it literally was - and still is - hell.
Still, for an extra $400, you can get a phone that is nice... but still has problems, just a different set of problems. It seems that at least $200 of that is just to pay for the coolness factor. Which has little value when you actually want to use your phone.
My next -- very soon, since I got pissed off at mine and damaged it pretty badly -- will be an android. Not because I love android, in fact I really dislike it. But I dislike it less than I dislike Windows Phone. And I can't imagine handing over megabucks for any phone which I am likely to leave on the seat of the train when I get off, or drop in the pool, or get mad and throw it at a concrete wall.
I think Beaver has defined the options, and none of them are good.

You know it's not their plan to give you a great phone. Their plan is to make you keep buying new phones in hopes of getting one that works better.

I was going to agree until I realised you were being specific to certain phone types. One of the things about technology I dislike the most, is the pace of new things being made. You're given this today, then it's old tomorrow. You're having advertising (direct and/or indirect) aimed at you, saying that you need this new thing because x, y and z. Phones aren't built to last, I can see why. This isn't my whole view on technology/'electronic gadgets', just an issue I have with it.

artificial obsolescence is another annoying Apple trait I forgot to mention in the OP. not that I'd plan on upgrading my iPhone every year, but their business model assumes from the outset that most people will. more electronic scrap for the Indian landfills.

I have an android. I like it.
I don't give a flying fuckerino about games. What I do care about is that, this expensive fancy pantsy smartsy phone, has a good camera, good screen quality (pixelation, resolution), decent battery (as far as we can get with these coolio phones) and call quality (voice).
In these things my Android scum delivers and so I'm happy with it.
