I've done posts on lunar/solar eclipses and related phenomena in the past, but I personally see myself to have in general failed in giving news of most eclipses (solar or lunar) since I've been here in VT.

I'm here though this time to announce that a total lunar eclipse is happening on this Monday the 28th. It will be the last of a set of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, which are called a tetrad. The first two happened in 15/4/2014 and 08/10/2014, the third was on 04/4/2015. After this upcoming eclipse, there won't be another total one till January 31st, 2018 (relatively a LONG time away).

Also of note is the moon being near the closest point in its orbit to Earth when the eclipse happens. This means that the moon will be bigger than it appears to be on average, though our eyes are very bad at picking that up.

Below are two diagrams of what will be going on, and a wikipedia link if you want to know more about it.
Also given is a list of all 21st century lunar eclipses, and all lunar eclipses stretching 5,000 years from ~2000 BCE to ~3000 CE (just in case any of you live that long :P )

Hope you're on the right side of the planet with the right kind of weather to see this! For the first time in 5 years I'm on the right side for this, but I still have the issue of if this weather will be clear...

Hot damn. Gonna set an alarm on my phone for that day so I don't forget.

Edit: this will be on the 27th for the Americas so that's worth noting.

I love the moon and how it changes and stuff. It was big and orange the other day and just looked awesome. Hopefully I won't miss this.

Does anyone know what time it's happening? Apparently it's 3:30am for me (around 4 hours) but the source was one of my friends and he was kind of high so I'm not sure its reliable.

Edit: I'm a fucking idiot and just realised that the eclipse will obviously be at its maximum at different times in different parts of the world, so I looked it up instead. So, any crazy UK people, here. (http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/uk/london) Don't know if its worth messing up my sleeping schedule for.

UT, as shown in the first image, means Universal Time. It has the same time as GMT, but because of daylight savings time, the UK is in GMT+1. So, basically add an hour to all the times shown. P1 is at 01:11:47, etc. I know you already found a link, but saying this anyhow.

It's been cloudy all day and it's starting to clear up but if they're not all gone in time to see the eclipse I'm gonna be pissed. Agh. I'm excited.

It looks pretty cool here, but it should be at it's best in about 20 minutes or so. Pics possibly incoming.

Edit: Aaaand it got overcast. Fetty Wap did not lose an eye for such shenanigans as this.

Fair enough, yeah didn't know what UT was. Usually GMT+1 is called BST so I was looking for that.

I saw it through snapchat, wish it was earlier and I would have stayed up.

It was really cool. I watched almost the entire thing with my friend, and then I continued to keep an eye on it when I got home. I've never really watched an eclipse from start to end like that.

This happens to be the Super Blood moon. I didn't see a mention of it in the thread so thought I'd add. And yes it looks beautiful!

I got to see it. My dad was amped up for it and let me and my brother watch it all and then miss most of school. He's really geeky, but I gotta admit, it was cool and he had some good graphics on what was making it happen. If there's something science like going on, he's all for it.

Nice try at car advertising :P
I got to see half of the eclipse, up to few minutes past the maximum, because my will to sleep was apparently greater than wanting to stay up for it all. The second half is like the first in reverse sort of, so I feel fine about it.

Some pictures [of differing contrast](NOT MINE, my phone did not work past half total):

And not forgetting Abhorrence's picture! Hope it's yours because it's real good.
