For anyone who's written one before: how the hell do you start out?!? I've literally been staring at a blank screen for 20 minutes now and said screw it I'm just gonna watch The Office on Netflix and start it later. Normally I'm a very good writer, but there's always been one subject I've never been able to write about: myself. There's a part of me that feels like the admissions officer or whoever reads it is going to judge me because of what I say, even though thinking that's completely illogical. So I guess my main question is just what am I supposed to put in my essay? Everyone says to just brag about yourself and shit, but I'm just so lost right now...
I'm a really smart person too! I shouldn't be having this problem!

It's one of those things were it's tough to get going, but once you do, you'll practically have to stop yourself from writing WAY over the word count. I don't know what your prompt is, but think about yourself, and what you do, and what you've experienced. Even if it's something you think is boring, it may be an experience that is unique and interesting to other people reading!

I honestly think that part of my problem is that I consider myself to be so boring and absolutely nothing in my life seems to be worth writing about. Thanks for responding though!

When you start make sure to tell them about you. That's what they want to know "Who are you?"

A lot of people have a hard time writing about themselves. Many find it easier to write as if telling the life story as in a newspaper article. Write the first draft in third person and then go back and make it your own. Admission officers are looking for communication skill. Be true to yourself, be honest, be positive and upbeat. Good luck.
