That.....is just gross.Would not mind if it would come down on Kaaba instead of those people. At least then Saudi Arabia would lose a huge part of its income from Haj for awhile.

I wouldn't set foot in Mecca even if I were a hardcore Muslim. with so many people packed wall-to-wall there's a serious risk of getting trampled/pushed over an edge, etc. nothx

Is really sad though. With this and the TNT accident in China, it kind of makes me feel good that I live in a country with at least some safety standards (not that the US is known for its regulations).

It is kind of a "haha, fuck you m8s" sort of scenario. There were lightning strikes happening that day in Mecca and in New York there was a clear blue sky and a rainbow. And the crane belonged to the father of bin Laden, I mean... C'mon. You can't make that shit up.

But if the same happened in say, Times Square, or somewhere with a lot of Americans (I'd relate it to something that had some sort of parallel, but the only thing I can think of is a Mormon tabernacle, and let's face it, Americans just don't care about Mormons) you'd all be super outraged and upset lmao
No wonder everyone hates America.

The amount of methane and flammable gases coming from the shit they take on the streets probably contributed to the explosion.

I agree. When a bomb goes off in the middle east it might make the news, but when it happens in the US it's all over the media for a long time. Bias is severely pandemic in media overall, not to mention media blackouts of certain things most if not all the time.

No because it's a rare thing in the USA there for news.
In the parts of the middle east like Syria etc. you could confuse explosions with the weather

The middle east is a mess but it's not a mess in a way that people could confuse bombs with thunder, it's not an instant death trap of bombs everywhere.
Mass deaths of people shouldn't be held as more important simply because such events are uncommon. I see it as a part of the media that should not be there and shows how media really works on sensationalism half the time it seems, but it's not just about that. Shootings are an occasional thing in the US, and yet those things are heard about more than more uncommon middle eastern events such as large Israeli attacks on Palestine. So much more happens in the middle east that rarely even gets a mention, such as arresting and possible torture of children. If such a thing happened in the US, it would be wildfire on the news (especially Fox news).
9/11 killed about 3,000 people. The Syrian war has killed more than 220,000 people. The chemical attack in Syria in August 2013 killed over 1,000 people. You'd expect maybe (naively) that the Ghouta chemical attack would get like a third of the media coverage and rememberance. But no. 9/11 keeps coming up as some sort of Pearl Harbour in the 21st century and is seen as one of the worst disasters in the world by a lot of people, but many more people have died in many more events than that. Thousands more people are suffering and dying from, yes, common situations, but so many other relatively very uncommon situations happen, and the media does not pick it up.
I once thought mass deaths in the US were big media things because of, as you say, them being uncommon. But after a while I saw it as being more than that. It's more than just rare events getting the bigger attention. Americentrism is around.
Hope no typos, ik long post, could have said my opinion in less.

Well to many Americans, 911 was never resolved as we never got closure for the attack. Even though Bin Laden's death could be painted as a conclusion, it really isn't as we are just fighting. Fighting and fighting. We never had the stomach to fight and now we are stuck with our mutilated men and women to show for it. To outsiders it seems to be American centric. But for Americans who lived through 911, it is the national issue relating to the outside war. To Americans who were too young to remember it, I feel like they could really care less about 911 at this point. At least that is how I feel, probably more conservative people care more.

For the sake of both of us avoiding an argument, I'll say our opinions differ a lot here, and I'll leave it at that for this thread.

Anyone see the death toll from earlier today? 717 dead, 800+ injured from people stampeding each other? I mean what the hell? Seriously, at this rate the number of dead from activities in the Mecca are going to be in the thousands. I wholeheartedly disagree with Islam, but it is still a shame to see this many people die.

So, while I am full blooded American, and I love this country, 100 people being killed is not good in anyway. 1 person being killed is a tragedy, let alone 100. How are we any better than they if we rejoice in civilian deaths? That is sick and completely sadistic. Also, don't pull the "he's a liberal" card on me because I am a conservative republican who believes in Christ. In addition, I almost signed to join the Marines, so I understand that killing is a part of life when two nations are at war, but not civilians. Soldiers sign up to defend their country knowing full well they may die. However, you have no clue what any one civilian thinks about America or anything else. Do I believe that Islam or any form of it is true or holds any value? No. But, I do not harbor hatred for them, and if anyone wants to believe a certain god, that isn't my God, then that is fine because I certainly don't want people telling me I can't worship my God. Here is a fact, not everyone is like you, and just because someone is different doesn't mean they are wrong or not as good as you. You, and everyone else who thinks like you, are the reason people hate Christians today. If you ever want to Christianity to be respected in America, or the world again, you have to show people that you have respect for other people's religion, be it insanely against Christianity or not. Christ didn't win people with hatred, he won them with love and if you ever want to win anyone for Christ, you need to prove you are capable of the same. All that to say this, those people were civilians and rejoicing in their death makes you just as morally, socially, and just plain wrong as the terrorists who hijacked those 4 planes on that Tuesday morning September 11th, 2001.
