The Pokémon Company has announced a new mobile game called Pokémon Go, produced in collaboration with Nintendo and Niantic, the former Google subsidiary behind the Ingress augmented reality game. Pokémon Go looks to follow in the footsteps of Ingress, letting players find virtual Pokémon and do battle in the real world, powered by GPS. Niantic broke away from Google after the Alphabet reorganization.
Nintendo is developing a companion smartwatch device called Pokémon Go Plus, designed to help you take part in the game's world without having to stare at your phone all day. The Pokéball-shaped device will vibrate and light up when you get near to a Pokémon in the real world. Tsunekazu Ishihara, the CEO of The Pokémon Company, said in a press conference today that he'd been working on Pokémon Go with late Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata for around two years.

Looks like a very cool idea!
Just wondering where we should draw the line between real and virtual world though.

The idea is neat but the emphasis on accessorizing is a downside.
The wrist gadget thing might clash with an outfit, it might be banned outright in school, does it use those expensive flat batteries (LR44 batteries)?
The idea is interesting but I don't know if I'm into it quite yet.
How does it work if your phone gets stolen?

Sounds it wouldn't be so easy to work, but I really like the idea.

Is anybody else concerned about the issues I raised?
Also is anybody for seeing any compatibility issues with the app as phones upgrade firmware periodically?

Srsly this is scifi-esque as fuck. Pokemon in real life? Why don't we create the MMBN Net or cause radiation to grow servers and warp the Internet and the real world together. Those things would have some practical value unlike this Pokemon crap. I love the games, but they're meant to be GAMES.

if you battle someone and beat them do you get half of their bank account (in the games you always got half of their cash)? if so I am dropping out of school and devoting my life to this haha

It's such a cool idea but like what if this thing leads you down a dark alley to capture a Wurmple or something and you get shanked?

I've never been the biggest fan of Pokemon, but if this is a free app like they claim - I will probably give it a try at some point.

Woo! If we later have the chance to transfer the Pokémon to the main series games, that'd be awesome!

I'm not sure why you are so worried with the accessories. They're optional and, whether if they're allowed on school grounds or not, will still be able to be used the rest of the day, or even in secret(!).
I'm going to assume that the app will have its own account/login system, and your account data will be stored there. It already needs a working connection to do its magic, anyways.

Most of the functionalities come from Google Play Services, making it much easier to run apps on different phones. It shouldn't be more of an issue compared to other apps, no?

Google play services is only for android.
How would it affect apple?
Also will Pokemon go gaming community be split between android users and iOS users?

Yup.
It would also be interesting to see if it speaks to the main series DS games.
But towards everyone else here, is nobody else concerned if Pokemon Go compatibility will be cross compatible among people both with iPhone and Android?
Or is there gonna be segregation?

Ah ha! the truth comes out :( *tear*.
Well I hope you'll join us.
Hopefully once Christmas 2015 comes around I'll have some $ to upgrade my phone and to try this app, if it starts being freemium, and I have to pay real $ for pokeballs....I think they might lose me.

I can't imagine playing this by looking at the display at all times. Would definitely require AR glasses for comfort and a more immersive/seamless experience.
