I've played all of the games in the Pokemon franchise and I've played too many Pokemon rom hacks and fan-made games to count. But never have I seen a Pokemon fan game as amazing as Ethereal Gates! The demo recently came out with an estimated 5-6 hours of gameplay. The game includes new characters, new features, a brand new region, and brand new fakemon.

The graphics are stunning and crisp...the sprites are animated even outside of battle - for example, in the beginning of the game your female rival, April, gesticulates excitement. An actual Pokemon game has never included a feature like that...as small as it may seem, that's pretty innovative. In my opinion, I think this could pass for an actual Pokemon game - at least from the 5th gen. It's that good and I can't wait to see how this will turn out in the end.
Oh, and, this may not seem like a big deal...but it's a pretty huge one for me. A lot of the rom hacks and fan games of Pokemon I've played were filled with errors in both spelling and grammar...which is one of my pet peeves. Some games were even unplayable because of the horrendous amount of errors, I'd say. But this...this game has none from what I've seen so far. Not to mention the dialogue is fairly realistic and I like the choice of vocabulary.
OH. I also forgot to mention the amount of interactive features in this game. Oh. My. GOD. It sounds strange but it's safe to say I had a bit of fun pushing the C button on many different things. Even the smallest detail...such as pressing the C button on the trash can in the kitchen in the player's house..."There's a banana peel in here.
Yuck."
And clicking the C button on the bookshelves in people's houses will tell you more about their character and lifestyle - even if they're minor characters.
And there are jokes. So many jokes for some of the things you click on.
I'm way too excited about this~ > - <
