I'm not really a fan of games (Console nor PC) but I wouldn't mind trying them in my free time. Any recommendations? Preferably free due to the fact that I would prefer to not to invest in something I won't use everyday. I have an iMac (2013 i5 2.9 Ghz 8GB RAM) running Yosemite (latest) and Boot Camp with Windows 10 in case you were wondering.
Thanks!

If you want to give shooters a go try Far Cry or Mafia 2. the latter is an AMAZING game I loved.
Story wise, I liked Bioshock Infinite, I don't know much more to suggest :P

That's quite a nice build for your Mac actually! My MacBook Air is a bit less specification than yours.
I occasionally play World of Warcraft, I've been playing for the last 6-7 years and I just enjoy the aspects of it really.

you're not going to find any real games for free unless someone gifts them to you or you "acquire" them "somehow." games aren't investments anyway, they're disposable entertainment just like movies and what have you.
try Minecraft or Terraria for starters. both are ~20 bucks iirc.

If you have Steam I suggest trying Blacklight: Retribution it's a shooter game and the best that it's free it's a full free game it's available on PC and PS4

There definitely are good free games.
Trove is nearly equal to minecraft in terms of building, beats it in all other gameplay aspects. It has a cash shop but it's not pay to win.
Urban Terror is a 100% f2p FPS that is nearly equal to CS in gameplay with quake-ish movement as an added bonus. The downside is it's graphics (but if you want to get into GAMING, focus on GAMEplay).
Tera is a good free mmorpg. GW2 is getting a f2p option, some restrictions to non-paying players, but no problem getting to end game.
There are private servers that let you experience WoW.
Dota 2 is a decent f2p moba. League of Legends is better but technically not free because you need 16 champs to play ranked and it takes very long to grind the ingame currency for it.

What's your opinion on story-driven RPG games? There are plenty of those that are great and free to play. Most of the good ones are horror, such as Mermaid Swamp and The Crooked Man, while some of them can just be adventure or romance. To The Moon is a brilliant RPG game...it isn't free but it's worth every cent in my opinion.

Ahh the RPG maker games. Such charming graphics. "The star stealing prince", has a very good story.

If you get Steam on your computer you can buy games on there. But most free games are pretty crappy unless you pirate them -- which I'm not saying you should do.

Not really, Most games you can still dominate with free weapons/gear if you're good.

Bioshock Infinite, amazing story (you don't need to have played the others), great graphics, loads of expansion packs if you like the game enough, the characters have actual depth and substance unlike most games. I still rate it as my personal best game ever made ever in any category of anything ever....it's a good game Ok?

Irelivant, untill you spend an unpleasantly long time grinding at the game to get the high end weapons, you will be fucking obliterated by any player willing to pay a few $$$

I like Bioshock Infinite 'cause Columbia is glorious to explore and you get to kill seditious commies and see lots of white people being eye-searingly white
Elizabeth is annoying and the DLCs are 20 seconds long and shitty. don't pay more than 20 bucks for this game, it's been cheap on Steam lately

Not really, I am a free to play player on Star Wars the Old Republic and I can get the equal-quality gear, only the aestetic gear requires you to sub or spend some euromonies. I still owned the subbed players in PvP most of the time. The experience rate is 20% slower, but I know how to get through it, join a guild and use exp boosts and you wind up making 5% more exp than the base exp. I might sub when I reach lvl 50 so I can continue playing, you need to sub for those extra quests. I mean, it ain't perfect but you can still win in PvP matches, they increase health and damage to lvl 60 for all participants.

You must be proud. Most players not at the MLG level, that you clarely are, will be utterly obiterated. If you're able to pay a little cash for top rank guns, many other players will have a less fun experiance because they'll be utterly destroyed every 3 seconds.
It's well knows that pay to upgrade is simply pay to win shit. Weather you're good at it or not, have an M4 or not, wether you have top strategy or not, if people can simply pay to have a better character they'll win.

Everything available to everyone.
Also more and more mmorpgs has "equalized" pvp modes, what this means is your stats on gear and character is the same.

You seem to be listing games that don't do any wrong, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of free to play games are pay too win, that's like saying "well, my apple is good, so no other appples are rotten"

Like with money you can get the best gear super quick, but if you as a free player just grind/farm a few hours at the right places, it doesn't take that long to get the same gear.
Pay 2 win should mean OP gear only available through cashshop or grinding for free players taking weeks, but that's not the case.

"pay to progress faster", so you admit that other players can easily become significantly stonger, faster, have more guns etc etc. Meaning, that you will be fucking shat on by anyone willing to pay. That last post seems like you just backpeddled...

In mmorpgs that is pay to progress, you only get rekt if you pvp. All the f2p player has to do is grind like 1-2 weeks longer and they are as strong as the paying player.
If a FPS is pay to progress, yeah you get destroyed for the first weeks, but even with the same stats this would have happened anyways because of skilled players in public servers. But in these games, getting destroyed is the best way to improve, so it's a good thing.
Almost all the f2p mmorpgs is pretty easy for free players, they don't have to pay to win. They just have to pay if they want to get to end game like 16 hours faster.

Like some of the above posters, you can get some RPG makers for free. Here's a website that has some translated Japanese to English RPG maker games (Some require the extra download of a file called "RPG vX Ace RTP" but that's also free) and here's the link:
http://www.vgperson.com/games/
Hope this helps. :)
EDIT: It has games like the before mentioned Crooked Man, if you're into horror. From the list of games with translations and you're into horror, I recommend Ib and Misao. Ib is more puzzle-based and Misao has a lot more story.
