A drunk Russian man rode home on a bus, slept like a log and ate breakfast before his wife alerted him to a 15cm knife in his back.

Yury Lyalin, 53, had been drinking the night before the grisly discovery, when his colleague — who had also been drinking — stabbed him during an argument at work.

But the kitchen knife went unnoticed until after Mr Lyalin awoke the next morning at work, took a bus home and helped himself to the fridge.

After Mr Lyalin's wife called the ambulance surgeon Viktor Belov treated the lucky electrician.

"By good fortune, it had gone through soft tissue without touching vital organs," he was quoted as saying in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

In a further bizarre element of the event, Mr Lyalin said he felt no resentment towards his knife-wielding colleague.

"We were drinking and what doesn't happen when you're drunk?" he said.

But a deputy prosecutor in the city of Vologda was not so sympathetic, saying the attacker faced a "severe punishment".

No, not yay at all. Alcohol is a terrible thing and I think that man deserves to go to be punished for being inconsiderate enough to get drunk and stab his friend in the back.

well obviously he should be punished for stabbing someone, since when is that acceptable behaviour?

Wow. Seriously, alcohol is a bad thing, and this proves it. The man should seriously be punished, and he can't use being drunk as an excuse, as he made the decision to get drunk in the first place.

OOOOOOOOuch.
I'm glad the man is okay,
I just hope he doesn't drink that much again O_o
He could be unlucky if it happened a second time.

He must have been very drunk when he was stabbed. I can't believe he didn't wake up to a pain during the night. Or sitting on a train or anything. Or anyone on the bus pointed this out to him....
