Continuing on my song a day thing here.
For today I'm gonna talk about the song "Beyond this life" by the one and only Dream Theater (My absolute favorite band). Beyond this life was the first song I heard from Dream Theater, and I fell in love with the band immediately.
Now the song is part of a story, the whole album that it's on is a story in itself. Go ahead and listen to it and make your own meaning, I'm not going to force my ideas on anyone - Album: Scenes from a memory.
Anyway, this song is just an absolutely perfect song in my mind. The singing that LaBrie delivers is just stellar, the drumming from Portnoy is just perfect, and Petrucci, well... He's John Petrucci, could he ever play that Guitar not perfect? The tempo changes are just executed to perfection, Dream Theater excels in stuff like that. The song has multiple different feeling "sections" inside of it. Near the beginning it is a calm/mysterious tone, then in the middle it kicks into a rock/light metal mode, then at the end it turns into a kick-ass instrumental solo. This song is perfect and worth the 11 minutes to take a listen.
Not much else to say about this song, because I don't really feel like researching anything right now or typing a lot because I'm tired, very tired... Anyway, here is a link to the song.
