View Full Version : Would you defy religion and not circumcise?

Hello,
I was wondering if there were any Jewish or Muslim people (the 2 major religions that require circumcision) who are against circumcision and, if they or their spouse had a male child, would choose to defy religious rules and not circumcise?
How do you think your own relatives would take this decision? What about religious leaders or even religious campgoers? Would you be worried that your child might feel different, or (in your views) do you think he would be happier to have a foreskin?
I ask because I am Jewish and (as time passes) I have become more and more against circumcision for reasons I won't bother explaining here. As it stands now, I'm not sure I would circumcise a hypothetical son. Are there any similar opinions out there? What is your reasoning?

I'm not Jewish or Muslim or cut but would like to say my point. I do see its for religious reasons however think it's wrong to force something like this on a child who many not want to be long to the religion. Would I have my son cut I think up to him when he can understand

Technically I am a Jew through my mother's side but basically I am such a mutt genetically that it is not the same a serious practitioners who go to temple, etc. My mother followed prevailing opinion for west coast North America when I was born and left me 'intact'. I chose to get cut later but that was more for personal reasons. If the Jewish angle came into that, it was subconscious. Simply living in anglo North America means a culture of circumcision.
I would be inclined to circumcise a son based solely on day-to-day experience, but that is just me and you have to go with your gut I guess (no flames please). It would be really interesting to hear from the VT Jew Crew here to get a religious perspective.

My dad got cut when he was born because my grandparents are Jewish but he never has been really. Me and my bros are all uncut because he decided he would ask us wether we wanted it when the time was right (basically as soon as he figured we started masturbating).... we've all said no haha

Hmm I don't agree to be cut unless there's medical reason to do that before age of consent. I believe everyone should be able to decide that. BTW I live in moslem majority country so much of my friends are circumcised and they're okay with that without even asking question why.

I've decided to go against circumcision if I have a male child.I am roman catholic and from what I've heard Jesus was circumcised so it became the majority.I have seen the effects of it and I've had enough.

It's condoned child abuse. There's no benefit to a non-medical related circumcision - less does not = more.
One has to decide if a god that demands suffering, mutilation of a perfect babies genitals, and long-term sacrifice of maximum sexual pleasure - is a god that a) is worth devoting your life to; and b) if your god is so unforgiving that you'd be damned to hell otherwise.
Surely if your god didn't want babies to have a foreskin, and you're all made in his image, then he wouldn't have screwed up and stuck it on there. Unless he is a sadist.

This seems more of a debate topic than puberty-related.

The reason those religion require their male member to be circumcise is because a long time ago they though it was harder to jerk off when your cut. That's why in religious country there is more guys that are cut.
If you get a boy and you don't want him to be cut just because of his religion don't do it, if you feel bad about it you could still change religion its all the same basic shit anyway

Wow that first paragraph is 100% not true. At all. Not a syllable. Actually in the bible (old testiment) it says to circumcise all males at 8 days old. Yes, it's a wonder why not all Christians don't do it. Or anyone who reads and keeps the bible.
The Jews are very strict about it and have been upholding this since Abraham circumcised Ishmael at 13. Known fact for anyone who reads.
Also, anyone who's mother is a Jew, is Jewish themselves.

As I said, it's written in the bible. The Jews uphold the bible fiercely. Uncompromising. For a few thousand years. That's how they've been around such along time.

Technically, I am Jewish (mother) but raised sort of Catholic. I think I would circumcise simply because I am and where I live everyone else is. I have never had a problem and I really don't think its that big of a deal. In fact, many people I know hate an uncut penis.

Genesis 17:11-12
Ive read it and i have 2 things to say
1. The bible agree with the selling and buying of children with money like they are animals, and in some version slave child. Seriously people thats what you believe in?!
2. It just says you should get your kids circumcise it doesn't say why you need to do it.

I never accused my parents of circumsizing and I do not know anyone who has. Where I live, its the norm. People would accuse their parents of not circumcizing.

Maybe . But my question was purely hypothetical.
But it's based on an actual incident in our neighborhood. A 16 year old son accused his father of having him circumcised against his will or so.
The father, muslim, replied and said that his son could have said that he didn't want to be circumcised. The son was circumcised at 7yo.
That gave me the idea that parents probably act not often in the interests of their children. Especially when it comes to religious rituals.
You can do that?
see above. someone did it.

Jesus was circumcised because he was Jewish and its not required for Christians to do it.

Why not?
Aren't Christians basically just Jews? As it (Christianity) were a Jewish sect? Or had Jesus renounced his faith in order to give rise to a new religion with new rules?
According to this thread, it seems just logical to me that Christians follow the rules of Judaism, unless they contradict the doctrines of Master J. Christ. This naturally requires too circumcision.

Well this is what the new testament say about it. And I agree 100% with the 1st part of what you said.
''As these passages proclaim, being delivered from our sins is the result of faith in Christ; it is Christ’s finished work on the cross that saves, not the observance of an external rite. Even the Law acknowledged that circumcision alone was insufficient to please God, who specified the need to “circumcise your hearts” ''
