Today was my first day of cross country. it was pretty hot today so the workout was lighter.
-1/2 mile warm up
-active stretching
-group 1 (faster paced): 3.5 miles
-group 2 (slower paced): 2.5 miles
-static stretching
I ran with group 2. I was behind everyone and so tired, so my coach told me I could head back early with some other girl who was injured. so I walked back and I was even slower than the girl with the injury- walking. the whole time walking back i felt stupid for trying XC, I'm a bad runner, I'm humiliating myself.
So in total, I ran about 1.5 miles and walked 1/2.

Don't get down on yourself, you can only get better! Just remember why you joined, and keep at it ^^

I want to believe that. I need to work hard and give it all i got. but my face gets so hot and red, I start breathing really heavy and I can't go the speed or distance that the other girls can. they've been running for years. how can I get up to pace before the frist meet in a couple of weeks

I have never done Cross Country or any Track type of sport, but I have played Soccer since I was 4 years old and as I got older there was a lot of running involved and the talent of the girls I played with and against got better and better. I remember many days I felt discouraged, but that just made me work harder to get better. This school year I will be playing Varsity Girls Soccer for my 2nd Year in a row and I will be one of the Assistant Captains of the team this year. Just continue to practice hard and you will see improvements.

What if I told you I can only run 20 or 30ft before I'm tired?
You'll improve, no one is born about to run 2.5 miles.

Well I did track and I was in a situation just like you. Here is how I fixed it:
1. These people have a massive advantage over you, so find others who are closer to your level
2. Be proud you are doing it.
3. Work hard and stay committed. Try to make small goals and try to compete with the people at your level so you can improve realistically.
4. Be healthy. This is really obvious but what you eat has a big impact on your performance. Maybe have a snack a few hours before practice and try to be well rested.
Hope this helps [emoji3]

The coaches know you're working hard, and that you're new to this, so they will ease you into things. Don't worry about meets or anything like that right now, just focus on continuing to make yourself better. Just think: you've already made leaps and bounds by showing up to the first practice. Remember how hesitant you were to even go in the first place? I think you will do great ^^
