I'm heading to a new high school and it has a weight room. I'm planning on using it after school. My only problem is that my strength levels seem to be a little below average considering my age. Should I be embarrassed by that? Have any of you worked out at your school's own weight room? What was your experience like at your school's weight room?

There's no reason to be embarrassed by your strength levels seeing as they will improve, with time effort and dedication.

Just remember this stay away from the weight machines and stick to barbells and dumbells because inlike machines barbell and dumbbells work the big muscles and the stabilizer muscles (that's the little muscles).

Also you'll need a good program, and the 20 rep squat program is among one of the oldest and most effective there is:

Just know that this one claims that the John McCallum version is the Original 20 Rep Squat Program ,which is not true the original version was crated in the 1930's by Mark H. Berry

There's really nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact, weight lifters tend to like showing new people around the sport, so you will be good. You're taking it up which is already a step, so just enjoy it.

My school doesn't have a weight room but my local gym is full of guys aged 14-25, and I tell you it's no big deal. You lift what you can lift, people around you will encourage you to lift more, but it's more of an encouragement than a laugh.

I would have to think the school has a fitness instructor/trainer responsible for the weight room. At least my school does. If so, he/she could get you started on the program that fits your goals and physical condition.

My experience either in weight rooms or at the gym is guys are MOSTLY helpful with newcommers. At your age, even if you are a little understrengthed (btw.....according to whom do you believe this is the case) your gains will come quickly. You can hurry them along with good eating habits and lots of sleep!
