Latching onto the Mike Brown affair and thus complaining about the inevitable death of someone who tried to jack a police officer's firearm, #BlackLivesMatter was looting (sorry, I mean protesting) in Ferguson yesterday on the first anniversary of a punk getting shown the door.

An armed black guy opened (a fucking whole lot of) fire on an unmarked police car, after which officers in plainclothes retaliated and grievously injured the shooter.

It's unclear if the protests and the shooting are related, but apparently the guy was a good friend of Mike Brown.

The idiots on Twitter are of course blaming the police because you just don't defend yourself when you're being shot at, especially if you're a cop, especially if the shooter is black and especially if he is this guy :

I'm no police fanboy but this is getting ridiculous. Bleeding heart progressives are continually trying to whitewash people like these guys, insisting it's all the white police's fault. How can you explain this kind of shit away? What are police supposed to do in this case, just sit back and enjoy the gift of accelerated lead projectiles? Should we sit back and allow something like Rotherham to happen in North America, not arresting criminals because the police is scared of public opinion and being called racists? For fuck's sake.

The media, however, tells the story something similar to this-
"White cops, who didn't even have a police car and weren't wearing uniform, shot a black friend of Mike Brown. Did I mention he was black? Follow us on Facebook and share with #BlackLivesMatter"

It's a shame that false media gets to children's minds and they grow up believing that cops are bad people, and other 1 sided non-factual reports (to get views).

As Jean Poutine pointed out in one thread, it isn't really the poverty. There is less crime in poor white neighbourhoods than in similar black neighbourhoods. I think it's the mentality. If you grow up listening to rappers who scream something like 'bitchez, drugz, gunz' on an infinite loop, it's going to burrow in your head and you will behave like that. It also doesn't help that your neighbourhood rolemodels are all in the gangs.

I only hear what the media and sites like Twitter and Tumblr say in response to the police brutality in America, since I do not live there myself. You hear such horrifying stories that frankly, they cannot really be true can they? If the police were genuinely just murdering innocent black people because of institutional racism then there would be government meetings or something at least, right? I'm not sure how anything works over there but America has a black president, so I'm pretty sure if there really was murders of innocent black people everyday by the law then something would be done about it.
