Hi basically I've gotta have a filling on my tooth but I'm petrified of Needles! Usually when I have anesthetic it doesnt work, so if he drills my tooth, it will hurt and I am really, really, worried!

What should I do?!

I've had one minor filling in one of my teeth, and I've never had the needle for it. My dentist had some blue looking numbing gel that he rubbed around the area, and proceeded with it.

Didn't hurt one bit at all to be honest, in fact it's even less painless than a standard hygienist and their damn sucking machines that choke you more than they drain your spit out of your mouth :p

I have had 3 root canals and haven't felt any pain from them. I was so nervous that I was hyperventilating and had to take anxiety medicine. After they were done I was surprised because I didn't feel any pain and was expecting it. You will be fine. Don't worry.

I don't know if all Dentists do this for procedures like fillings, but my Dentist gives this sort of Gas stuff that I breath in and it doesn't put me completely asleep but you really are way out there and have no clue what the hell is going on. I am petrified of the Dentist. Even just getting a cleaning every 6 months scares the hell out of me.

I don't think anaesthesia needles really hurt but I guess if you're terrified of needles you don't need it. I've had two fillings, one with numbing and one without. The one without did hurt but it felt like a toothache to me, it wasn't excruciating pain. I think it's worth having the numbing though. Depends how long they're going to be doing it for.
