I'm really interested in maybe joining Planet Fitness because I've never gone to a gym and I'm not sure what to do when I sign up. Like, after I sign up and whatnot, what do I do as to starting workouts and everything? Any advice?

sometimes there are people there who will show you around and help even show you how to operate everything. you could always go with a friend who knows what they are doing. but yea a place like planet fitness is simple, if you have a membership there you can go in (check in) and start working out on different exercises

A good thing to do when you first sign up is to get one of the Personal Trainers they have on staff and work with them for several times developing a workout that fits you and learning the proper way to do the exercises and use the equipment. Good Luck.

Plant fitness is not the place to go if you are serious about working out hard and getting to where you can lift heavy weights.

you should go and try and sign up with an instructor first, who can show you around and give you tips on how to use the machines

First of all....GOOD FOR YOU for wanting to workout and go to a gym to stay in shape. don't fall into the trap of just "joining" to say i "go to the gym." For it to do any good, you have to actually GO and do something !
Before you sign up, check the net for any possible membership specials. There are LOTS of specials now, considering how competitive the fitness field has become, they are mostly willing to do things like waive "joiner" or "initiation" fees, or add a month or two if you go on a contract basis.
That being said, there is nothing to be self concious about, or afraid of. You will find lots of great people to help you out. When you start, IMO, go with lighter weight and STRICT form. There is a WEALTH of info on the internet, and one of the best sites I found for designing your own program is "Bodybuilding.com" and that has super information about what exercises for what bodypart, nutrition, buddying up, etc.
Stick with the winners at the gym. After a while of watching who is doing what, you will be able to pick them out in a heartbeat. BUT, again, IMO, you will benefit more from going and hitting the exercises MUCH more than if you change it into a "social event". Personally, I wear earbuds to kind of keep people at bay. ((sorry if that sounds anti social.......but I go to build and grow, not talk.....))
Good luck!! If you stick with it, the health benefits will become addictive and you will ENJOY the journey!

Well thr is a trend in sm guys they take being unfit pretty cool....Eat all junk food even they arn't skinny any more and let the new chubby bits be seen by all by hanging out shirtless...Its kinda like a turn on,,,,because its a carefree attitude to life...like smoking, speeding and drinking...(and much less dangerous):yeah:
