Homo floresiensis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_floresiensis)
this unusual species of archaic human stood barely over 1m (3 ft) in height as an adult, and based on archaeological findings, they are thought to have been sapient and may have used language. interestingly, they survived far longer than any other species in our genius aside from modern humans ourselves, all the way up to about ~13,000 years before present (last Thursday on the time scale of evolution). H. floresiensis' remains aren't even fossilized. real elves!
so this got me thinking, what if archaic humans hadn't gone extinct, and instead survived into the modern era? how much different do you think the world would be if H. sapiens sapiens shared the planet with other human species today?

I don't think to different As both would be human. There would be tension between the groups but no different from today with colour race religion.

Not much different as Cro-magnons are still in existant...if you don't believe me ..just look in the mirror!

There could be many possibilities.
1. We might treat them like other animals and imprison them for research/exhibition/protection.
2. If their population is greater than ours or they are more developed or basically perceived as a threat to humans, we would wipe them out or at least decimate a part of their race or do anything we are capable of to wipe out a potential threat.
Basically I don't think they would be allowed to blend in easily with humans as even if the governments don't finish them off as threats, the extensive media coverage and attention wouldn't let them live normally.

I think it would depend a great deal on factors that we can't discover from skeletal remains. I'm guessing that, the closer a near-human was to us in behavior and appearance, the better chance he'd have of getting along with us.
like for example, it's entirely possible that H. floresiensis could have used tools and language like us, and have thick fur from head to toe like an ape. think about that for a second - any modern human coming across a furry primate that talks would probably be pretty creeped out and might even consider the creature a demon or some shit (this may have actually happened irl). if they did talk, their voices probably had a different pitch and timbre due to their smaller lungs. slay the demon!

Cro-Magnons were early modern humans, i.e. a stage in our own lineage. I'm talking about modern humans living alongside other species.

Hm, that's an interesting question. I'd think there wpuld be quite a bit of division between us, but generally speaking we would be able to get along well enough.

I'd find some and go on a quest to throw a ring into a volcano.

We would live with them similarily like the Zindi species live together in Star Trek: USS Enterprise. They would live together and unite when needed for their interests but divide when it's not in the interests of their species. Or the dominant/smarter specie would advance and enslave the other, sort of like colonial times.

Well, imagine two smart animal species sharing the same area...

War. Extinction of one of them.
That's what happened far in the past.

BUT THE WORLD WAS CREATED 4000 YEARS AGO
just kidding
No but the world would probably be somewhat the same. By this time, I imagine people would've gotten past all the wars between species and such. There'd be little cheeky jokes about how small they are here and there but it'd probably be generally the same except there would be small people as well as normal sized. They also might think different.
It is also possible that there would've been a species "purge" of sorts by some lunatic at some point in history which would've caused them to go extinct. That seems pretty likely because in old classical thought many would've viewed them as inferior.
Of course, all of the above would be assuming if they had survived to modern day.

Crazy religious people that denies evolution would be pissed about it.
Actually Europeans would probably had kill them too like they did with native americans and other tribes when they got here

Many scientists think that Neanderthals fought with us but also interbred with us. They say that Eurasians and Americans (the natives) have neanderthal DNA in them. Africans don't however unless they are north African.
In the case of the specie homo florisensis it is likely that there was contact with the Austronesian humans as there is even a folk story there about a forest dwarf village. Maybe bigfoot has origins in some specie after all!

Neanderthals and homo sapiens are 2 different species they can't bread with each other they might had some fun with each other;);) but they didn't bread with each other. The reason there is DNA in common with them is
1. We have DNA in common with every single thing that ever lived on this planet
2. they are our closest ancestors so yes we (every human on earth) have most of the DNA is similar to the Neanderthals. but there is enough difference between the 2 that they can't bread wth each other

I'd say they probably got holocausted by the ancestors of the indigenous modern human tribes that colonized Flores. there are some 2spooky myths in the area about a bipedal humanoid-monkey thing that some anthropologists say could be based on actual encounters with H. floresiensis. idk about you but if I stepped out of a canoe and saw a gaggle of these things hooting and hollering and getting their spit roast ready, I'd freak

after hundreds of generations any oral tradition of such a creature might as well be actually a humanoid monkey, and by the sound of the myths you could probably find similar stories elsewhere hunter gatherers had contact with apes
the whole thing is very interesting but youd think if there was an entire subspecies that got wiped out (especially by war) -- relatively recently -- there would be more evidence than just a few dodgy skeletons that could simply be old deformed people
if it is a separate species i wouldnt be surprised if it was more chimp than human, unsocial, incapable of real language etc
