Alternative Rock is any type of rock that doesn't fall under normal Rock music. Thus it includes emo, indie, underground, punk, etc.... Any band that doesn't really fit in under a well-distinguished "category" is considered alternative. Emo is not rock, its not country, its certainly not rap, its not electronic, its not experimental [which falls under alternative anyways].. thus its alternative. If AFI is alternative, then emo is alternative.
