Not all of us get noticeably larger. Also, it doesn't always get "hard" for everyone, a lot of the time it just sorta swells or isn't even noticeable. And for me it's really hard to tell.

But to the OP, that sounds normal. You got aroused cause you two were getting 'intimate' in a way. Just do what makes you happy and what feels good.
