5'6" or 170cm is the average height for a 17 year old male.

The average adult male (at least in America) is 5'10"
You're only 17, you still have time to grow.

Well, I am 14 and am about 5'10",
So take what you want from that.
People grow at different rates, after all. :)

The average height for a man in the US is approximately 5'10". I'm 20 years old and I'm 5'7" tall -- I've always been on the shorter side but there isn't anything I can do about it. With height you just have to take what you get and accept it. You're about average, and still have more time to grow.

How long is a piece of string?
Seriously, adult men vary in height and guys vary in how far through puberty they are at any given age. You height at any time is the product of the two.
My instinct says 5'9 would be within the normal height range for an adult. At 17 you could be at your final height or you may not be.
If you wanted to confirm this for yourself you could search for a distribution graph of adult male height from a survey taken recently. That is much more useful than a simple average and "normal" is usually regarded as anywhere between the 5th and 95th centile, i.e. the middle part of the chart that 90% of people fall into.

That's not short. It's not tall either. Try to accept whatever you are though.

That's not short, neither tall ... Maybe for a boy it's a bit short but you don't have to worry about it. You still have time to grow!
I'm 17 too, and I'm 6ft 23 ... All my friends and classmates are tall as me or just a little shorter.

I'm 6 foot 3 and I'm 17 but it's kinda genetics for me considering all my moms brother and herself are past 6 foot 0

That's pretty much the average for men in the US. Plus you're 17, so there's still a chance you might grow a bit more.

I turn 16 in December and I just broke the 5ft mark lmao
My dad is 5'5", my tallest uncle is like 5'7", and i'm predicted to be between 5'2" and 5'5" when i'm done growing. 5'9" isn't even short, I would kill to be that height! xD

I've always been so much taller than everyone, I'm 6'6 now at 17 so my word might not count for a whole lot, but 5'9 is pretty close to normal. A couple of my 17 year old friends are around 5'3 so trust me you're fine

Well I would see you as short because I'm 16 and 6 foot but then I do know people who are younger that are taller and people who are older and shorter. Try not to worry about it...or surround yourself with people shorter than you to make you feel taller :D
