So uhh, my laptop is broken. I have no idea what caused it to be broken but basically it is stuck on a loop. I turn it on and it tells me it is preparing automatic repairs and then the screen goes black, comes on a while later with diagnosing PC and then attempting repairs. The attempting repairs never stops, I've left it for many hours with no success.

I then went on Google like a normal person to see what could be done. The only answer I seemed to get one to create a recovery partition thing with a USB memory stick. My friend has the exact same laptop as me so I used hers and created one. I then obviously changed the boot order so the PC would boot from the memory stick and fix, I guess. I'm not an idiot when it comes to computers but I'll admit I'm not a genius.

So uhhh, now that I've got this recovery partition and it doesn't seem to work what can I do from here? Or have I done something wrong? If anyone has any extra details they need to know, please ask because I just want to fix this damn thing - it's stressing me out.

Thanks :)

EDIT: I thought I'd add that when I boot from the memory stick, it does seem to work. I can then see the cursor and move it around but there's just a black screen to explore, nothing else.

Is it a Windows laptop? Because I've been having a similar problem lately on my windows 8.1 laptop except the black screen goes after five minutes approx.

It is but it's all good because I've completely fucked it up now. I may have completely wiped windows from the Hard Drive somehow so I just need to get a windows installation disk and it'll be fixed, I just really cbf.

What's the current status? Are you sure Windows got wiped out? And I think there's an option for a manual factory reset so if there's hope your system has some shed of life, you could try that :p

So now it just fires up, and goes straight to a black screen?

(I'm not the best with laptops, so bear with me.)

If I just turn the laptop on it does this. If I put my recovery partition USB in it fires up and then goes to a black screen with a cursor and just never moves from that. So yeah, I have no clue lmao.

Please ignore how dirty that screen is damn haha oh and I attempted a system restore and it got to 12% then failed

Abhorrence That's odd. I'm not going to pretend like I know what's wrong with it without being able to look at it. I'd suggest finding a place to get it fixed, honestly.

This happened on my desktop earlier this year but I attempted system restore a few times and it worked finally. I'm not an expert so my advice is based on a trial and experience. But it's best you show it to some professional.

My friend has a windows installation disk so I'm gonna see if that works and if it doesn't then I'll consider either sending it off for repair or getting rid of it and getting a proper computer [emoji14]

Abhorrence that's okay. I think the installation disc might not work because your system isn't even booting properly but when I say something like this, often the opposite tends to happen. I'll hope it does :P It's a worth a try anyway.

This happened to my grandpa's computer (a Dell), I DM'ed Dell Support and they ended up sending me a recovery USB to restore the computer. Hopefully you have gotten your issue sorted out!

Lmao no, I haven't. I'm sending it off for repair soon. I kind of completely fucked the hard drive, it's kind of my fault for trying to fix it. But oh well 😂

Hi Abhorrence,

Did your laptop/PC not come with any recovery DVD's or did Windows not prompt you to create any?
I always keep mine safe just in case anything unexpected happens.

I created a recovery partition and I also had a spare Windows 8 USB and neither worked because something has done fucked up in the hard drive. It firstly said that it was not the correct partition or something, so then I cleared it and it was all working fine it said it was about to install Windows and then an error occurred that basically said it cannot be installed on the hard drive.

Forget recovery partition, because from reading the thread, it seems like you've bricked the hard drive!
Normally in Windows, the factory default software offer you features to create your own recovery DVD's - the recovery partition comes as default when you first buy the laptop.

What you then could've done (if you made the DVD's), would be to boot your laptop using that, which then should lead you to some sort of Recovery Mode (or a section that'd allow you to reset the system to how it was when you first bought it).

I'm curious to know this (cos I didn't see it mentioned anywhere above), but have you tried booting Windows using Safe Mode (F8)?

I've gotten to the recovery section, it just doesn't work properly xD and yes I tried it when it was available but it isn't available anymore. It's busted so I'm just gonna get round to sending it off eventually, I don't need it at the moment since I've got another laptop.
