Well guys, I've just gotten student housing in the Dutch city of Leiden with no housemates so going to be living on my own. I will no longer have a babysitter so lot of stress is gone cuz of that, and will be living alone so can cut back on bathing and showering long as I don't gross everyone out at class :)
Any tips/words of advice people have to give me? I'm really excited.

No, you shouldn't cut back on bathing.

Agreed.
Why would you cut back just because you live alone?

Dude, don't cut back on staying clean. Its not just getting away with it, it's your health. YOUR health. Nobody elses, yours. Don't mess around with it, please. Stay clean, stay healthy, and then you can really totally enjoy being on your own.
Plus, Leiden is an awesome city, lots to do and really good energy. You need to be out living in it, not just sitting in your apartment.

Oh you live in Leiden? No any local points of interest? Primarily places to translate at. I'd like to find those.

well, in my old place my sis and mom would team up on me as a kid, and as a teen sis would keep spraying me with smelly perfumes and stuff until I'd bathe to wash that shit off. Or mom/dad would punish me until I agreed to bathe. Also there were people at school I liked so I'd make an effort occasionally. But now I know no1 there and I feel like pampering myself for a bit. So yeah.

letting yourself be the smelly guy is not pampering yourself. it is being absolutely disgusting . you really want to be known as the smelly guy?

Why wouldn't you shower? You're probably not going to enjoy yourself if people avoid you like the plague just for the way you smell.

As long as its not TOO bad, sure. I've been known as the smelly guy for a long time in highschool; I can live with it.

I have my own smell tolerance limit so shouldn't go that far :)

I really don't quite understand the appeal to being dirty? It's not even about people's comments, don't you feel nasty? I know if I can't shower for whatever reason, say it being camping or something like that then I feel horrible. Showering as a daily routine can make yourself feel a lot better in general and I'm pretty sure it is a good health practice.

Hate to say it, but daily showering could be harmful for you (check out the: 'Hygiene Hypothesis'; basically a hypothesis that due to our constant showering/bathing we're fucking up our immune systems and are thereby more receptive to allergies etc. etc.) As for feeling dirty; yah there are times I feel dirty/sweaty for some reason, but if I don't I just don't feel like showring, y'know. Boredom+too many hormones.

And not taking care of yourself is also harmful...

Yea don't stop bathing regularly. That's not healthy, or appealing at all, and can cause people to be offended or feel violated for you being near them if they happen to catch a whiff of your BO

I understand that B.O. isn't pleasant, but I'll try to make sure it doesn't get too unpleasant for people. Not trying to be a sadist here. Anyway, does anyone have any tips about moving away for school?

Watch what you buy, food wise, get the most nutrition you can out of whatever budget you're on, and don't just buy crap food.

I have a 500 euro per month budget so roughly 10-15 euroes per day on foor. Any foods you reccommend that are nutritious, cheap and provide one with energy?

I'm not really familiar with what's available in your standard Dutch convenience store, but simple foods like soup, and easy to afford/make meat and vegetable dishes are good. Pastas and/or rice are also good for energy.

people should not have to be subject to your stinky self just because you want to be known as the stinky boy

No, I don't live there, sorry. We've been there several times. So what to see and do....
My little brother loves the Museum of Natural History. I don't like it. I dont like looking at dead animals because, well, because they're dead.
I love the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde (Museum of.... History of People?) The place is amazing, I could go there a hundred times and love it still. History, religion, peoples' view of the world... cool stuff!
And the poems on the walls are really cool. Not that you can go to one place to see them all, though. But way cool.
I'm not sure what you mean by "places to translate". There is always Leiden University. Or Webster University if you are looking for English.

There is a farmers market every Saturday. Fish, veggies, lots of good fresh things! Last time I was there, one place was selling awesome stroopwafels, but I shouldn't tell you that because they are not healthy at all. And not cheap so you probably should skip them. But seriously, lots of fresh food for sale. And I think it might be less money than buying easy-to-make stuff at the market, since you are trying to live on a budget, plus its healthier and gives you more energy.
There are others on here that might know better than I, hopefully they'll respond and help you out.

If you're not going to bathe often, at least regularly wash up at your bathroom sink and use deodorant and maybe some bodyspray

Sadly I don't have a bathroom sink at my room. There's a kitchen sink which I could use tho. And I'm not a deodorant guy, but since I do dancing I'm considering buying some. Don't rlly see body spray being my thing tho; it's majorly scented and scents are a huge no-no for me.

Ah thanks, sounds nice. I speak Dutch so shouldn't be too hard to negotiate with vendors and all that and the market sounds like a nice cheap way to get food. Might check out the museums, not sure. As for places to translate, I mean nice places where you can sit down and write something.
