All my girlfriends tell me to stop complaining when I say that having a fast metabolism sucks. It does suck when you're trying to gain weight and gain muscle. I've been going to the gym since April of last year and while I have seen results absolutely, I feel like it's fruitless in terms of the weight. I try to gain muscle and I visibly have a better chest and arms, but my in trying to gain weight. I even take a "Weight Gain" protein mix. I have a genetic fast metabolism, so whatever weight I gain, I lose real quick. I've been entering my weight in a spreadsheet and in line graph format, it's a zigzag. I went on a cruise and did go to the gym. I weighed myself on the ship. 162.0 lbs. When I got home a week later, my scale said 157 lbs. I ate a shit ton on the cruise and since then (that was mid-June) I've had very little to eat, I haven't been that hungry. But my weight hasn't been lower than 155 and no higher than 158. Anyone got any tips for weight gain? Thanks!

If youre trying to gain weight because youre 'bony' then you want to gain some fat, so eat some simple carbohydrates because they break down quickly so you'll eat more.

If youre trying to gain muscle mass while not losing weight, then make sure youve eaten before you exercise. If you exercise without eating beforehand, your body will convert fats so you will lose weight. I would recommend something like pasta 60-120 minutes before so you will be able to gain muscle while not getting skinnier

Even though it may be a bit of a struggle, I wouldn't say having a fast metabolism sucks at all, and this is coming from someone who has always had the physique of a stick bug.
I don't reccommend eating too many carbs, you'll just be low-energy all the time. Some is fine though.
Lots of protein, lots of healthy fats like in nuts, and a healthy increase in the amount of food you eat should do the trick.

But where it really sucks is when that fast metabolism slows down.!!!
I too had a fast one until I was lyk 15. I could eat any junk food and was stick skinny, with ribs and packed abs.....but after 14 I started to get a little soft, got me worried and went almost anorexic...lost some...But with persuasion by my GF I started to eat normal again....And pounds started to come back with a vengeance....

Now fast forward 3 yrs and I stand 65kg (was 48!!!) !!. 25" waist is now 36" with a soft belly roll, angular small face is rounder and stick like thighs are chunky...only upside is I've now got a cute butt where none existed B4.

Cos I used to be so skinny still I look slender in clothes..But underneath its all "skinny-fat"..I cannot take my shirt off w/o frinds poking at my belly and saying sometihg....

So enjoy ur life while ur metabolism is fast cos its gonna change some day...

I have an extremely fast metabolism, and I experienced what you went through.

This is solid advice, and what I would say is you need to figure out how much calories you usually eat, and then eat more, or else your buddy will have nothing to convert into weight, be it fat or muscle weight.

Most people that have a so-called fast metabolism either do not eat enough in general or are very active and do not eat enough for their activity level!

Try this

20 rep squat programs

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/20_Rep_Squats

The Milk

Gomad, or gallon of milk a day, has been a method used by weightlifters for decades. It is a technique used to gain vast amounts weight and strength quickly. It fits with the 20 rep squat program so well because all of the extra protein and calories make it ideal for recovery. If you can manage to do gomad for six weeks you will definitely reap the full benefits of the 20 rep squat program. You are still fully capable of making progress without it as long as you are eating enough and meeting your protein requirements (at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight everyday).

Benefits of milk

-High Protein. You need protein to build muscle & prevent muscle loss. 1 gallon of whole milk contains 120g protein. 80% casein, 20% whey.

-High calories. Could you build a house of cards without any cards?

-High Carb.

-Saturated Fat.

3-4 Eggs for breakfast, big sandwiches for lunch, lots of vegetables, steak for dinner if possible, and a glass of whole milk with every meal. Milk is an awesome source of calories and protein and it’s IGF-1 (Insulin like Growth Factor 1) will build you body like steroids.

You must eat incredible amounts of food to keep building muscles. Lots of food and sleep will do wonders for you, and you will not finish the program without it.A half-gallon of whole milk was considered to be the absolute minimum

•Get 8-10 hours of sleep each night. You need it.
•Eat tons! Walk 2-3 miles on your non-workout days to control the waistline.
•This should be incredibly difficult, but not impossible.
•Finish your 20 rep squats. No BS.
•Always add 2.5-5 pounds every session or 10 pounds onced every week your choice.

"fast metabolism" doesnt exist, or i should say the varation of metabolisms speed in the human body are not important enough to magically prevents people from gaining weight. Its either you dont eat enough or you eat and you are active (lots of skinny people go like "i eat like an oger and dont gain anything!" they actually dont eat a lot at all, i know people that really eat a lot and it's something) or usually thats teens that are not done growing, and growth is consuming a lot of calories.

You should eat more, it is the reason why you can't build muscle mass. Make your own calories balance and add calories. You should to watch out how your body reacts, if the weight is the same after 1 week of diet, add more calories. Remember to do it gradually. It is dangerous to add a lot of calories suddenly.

Have the same "problem" haha. I don't, I'm kinda happy about it! I'd rather be skinny slim, than just plain fat. As for getting muscle mass- if you eat enough, you're gonna gain it. Fast metabolism is a gift from God, I'm telling you! :D
