So it looks like I might actually have a 1st date with someone later this week. Wonders will never cease, right? The general theme of the date has been decided, which is going to a café/coffee shop sort of thing. We met through a legit dating site, so along with first date it is also first meeting in person. We accidently have found out over the last couple of days that we both know some of the same people. She went to a school where many people from my church went to so we have some mutual friends already. But anyways, getting to the point. I haven't gone on a 1st date like this as an older person (my last first date was like when I was 15 or something where this wasn't really an issue) so when it comes to paying at the end of our time at the café, who pays? Now i'm a traditionalist and thinks the guy pays, but technically she asked me out and I agreed to it, so would we split it? I'm not sure. Any ideas anyone?

Split the cheque, shows you aren't sexist and if it doesn't work out, you aren't out of pocket. These are modern times and women don't need men to look after their finances! Hah. Also, no offence, but isn't it about time you moved on?

What I would do:
At the end of the meeting say that you'll pay. Not because you're a guy, but because it's a polite thing to do. Plus it's just a coffee shop - those are relatively cheap.
I would only split if she insisted. And leave tips.

^^^This.
It's polite to offer to pay, gender is irrelevant in this situation, unless you make it otherwise.
Have a good time, and good luck!

Thinking that it's sexist to pay is sexist itself.. What person above said, paying is a polite thing to do.
