Dont get anything skinny ir heavy get zip off hiking LONG pants thry should br made for hiking and able to dry easily trust me ive done alot of this stuff. Long is importnat to protect from stones and long grass and shit and must be light nbut strong material to wear well and dry quickly.

The reason you will have been told not to wear jeans is that they become very heavy if they get wet and take a long time to dry.

Ideally you want some light, but strong trousers made out of an artificial fabric as these tend to be quick drying. Outdoor shops will sell trousers designed specifically for hiking. If you can't afford them how about sports clothing shops (e.g. SportsDirect) or even cheap clothing shops. Check the label - you want to avoid those with lots of cotton in as this is what causes them to hold water.

Highly recommend the Terra Pants by Montane. Great for ventillation in the summer as well as fairly loose fitting. They have huge pockets too, great for expeds :)
