We bet you had no idea that a bra could be life threatening did you? Well, it can. A woman in Greenville, S.C. had a near life threatening experience with her Victoria's Secret lingerie.
Jessica Lang, bought a bra with underwire and was wearing it a few days later when she began to experience discomfort. She tried to take the bra off and the underwire broke through the fabric and cut her. Originally the lawsuit said the cut was "six inches wide and six inches deep," but that was later amended to say the cut was, "3 inches x 1/4 inch deep."
The complaint alleges that the bra was, "so negligently and carelessly designed, manufactured, constructed, assembled, inspected, and sold the brassiere that it was dangerous and unsafe for its intended uses."
Victoria's Secret responded saying that the negligence was on the bra user's part, aka, it was her own fault she got hurt.
Oh, and part of the reason that Jessica is seeking damages is because she was so injured that she had to miss work for several days. When she tried to go back to her job she was fired. We understand if she didn't want to tell her boss where she was. Jessica was probably too embarrassed to say she was stabbed by a bra. Kind of like my dog ate my homework, that one's a little hard to explain.

I could understand being scratched by the underwire, that happens sometimes, but a 1/4" cut is just a freak accident!

Wow.. that had to hurt.. But seriously, who's fault was it? You could probably come up with an argument for both sides.. Have to agree with Francis, I wonder how this will turn out.

Seriously, owch! This happened (sort of) to a friend of mine in 7th grade. The underwire poked through the fabric and was scratching her when she moved, but she'd already gone to the bathroom earlier in the period so the teacher wouldn't let her leave (plus, it was a guy, so she didn't want to explain the situation). Luckily we sat in the corner, so I held up a jacket as a curtain while she used some masking tape to cover the end of the wire so it would just be poking her rather than scratching her. They should really round the ends of those things, so they can't poke out as easily and so they can't hurt you if they do.
I'm still in awe of the fact that this Jessica Lang sustained a 1/4" deep scratch, though. Owwww.

How could it be her fault? Did she wear the bra improperly? xP I don't think the company did anything wrong, though, sometimes the machines make one product a bit different from another, and maybe she just happened to get the one bra that was likely to self-destruct. And come on, she couldn't go to work? Maybe the injury prevented her from wearing a bra for a few days while it started to heal, and she couldn't go to work bra-less? Still, she could tell her boss she'd been injured and needed a few days off to recover.... it is a funny story though, regardless of who's at fault.

Well, we don't know the complete story, sometimes major details are left out of lawsuits like these. I guess you're right in that it seems more likely that it was just a faulty bra than anything else.

I would blame the manufacturer because this could have been a defective product that should have been taking off the line. But still its funny.

Funny how you never hear about deathly boxers from Victor's Secret.

Precisely why I don't wear underwire.
It's uncomfortable in the first place,
But the thought of that happening...
*cringes*
I say that the company just pay for the damages and move on... they make so much money anyway that it wouldn't put a dent in their wallets.

I don't think I would be wearing a bra and its not funny that she got stabbed its more of what would a death certificate say if someone died that way.

I think that's a major overreaction, if you ask me. Underwire in bra's can snap all the time, mine has before, though I've never been stabbed as bad as she apparently has. Still, what does she hope to gain from sueing Victoria's Secret apart from having to probably pay a huge legal bill at the end of it? Sueing a billion dollar company that have lawyers coming out the wazoo, you should know your chances of winning aren't that great. Maybe they got the facts wrong and the wire prodded her in the brain instead.
