My understanding of the term is to get close to orgasm but control your rate of stimulation (for example the stroking with your hand during masturbation) such that you don't cum, at least not for a while and not until you want to. There are two objectives to doing that:

1. To enjoy the less intense, but still pleasurable, sensations prior to orgasm for longer.
2. To make the orgasm more intense when you do cum.

As far as I can tell it is reasonably common to practice this such that within a single masturbation session you quicjly get close to cumming and then stay that way for a decent length of time (more that just a few minutes) before finishing the session with an orgasm.

Less common is to masturbate almost to the point of orgasm, maybe maintain that for a while, then move on to doing something completely different without cumming. Some guys do that with several sessions over several days, with maybe more than one such session per day, before finally cumming. I get the impression that some regard this as the purer version of the term.

It is this. I do it quite a bit because it makes the orgasm feel a helluva lot better.

Edging is when you are masturbating or having sex. It can be done by both male and female. Edging is when you are very close to orgasm, but then stopping the stimulation, enough for that high level of intensity to go away, and then continue to stimulate yourself to the 'edge' or orgasm, and stopping stimulation. This can result in a more intense and stronger orgasm.

The point of these forums is to answer a question that may be explained in a questionable way on the internet. I would try to answer the question rather than referring the person to an unreliable source of information.

Very good answer, couldn't have told it any better.
