Our school yearbook costs $50 and so today I went to get my yearbook so the teacher gave one to me. Then I reached in my bag and pulled out my 50 bucks and the teachers was like "you dont need to give me your money you already paid". And so without thinking about it I said "thanks" and walked out of the room.
But then as I was leaving the school I was like "wait did I really pay?? I dont think so!!!!! Why did that teacher say I already did?"
When I got home I looked through the yearbook with all the great pictures then I saw how beautiful it was put together and I started to feel extremely guilty that people spent time and effort putting this yearbook together and I didnt even pay for it! I felt really bad. I feel like I just stole it from the school.
I dont know what to do right now today was already my last day of school so I cant go back and pay for my yearbook but at the same time I feel bad that I didnt pay. Then these thoughts kept going through my head like "wow you actually got it for free! Congrats!" "Well maybe it might be alright that it was only you who didnt pay im sure everyone else with a yearbook paid so just one person might be fine" but then im like "no this is not right! You shouldve told the teacher that you didnt pay!"
And I have no idea what to do right now! Everytime I see my yearbook I feel that huge sense of guilt and I dont wanna have to flip through my yearbook from highschool 20 years later and think about the fact that I didnt pay and technically stole this and this like a sin that I have to carry on my shoulders for the rest of my life! I dont know what to do what do you guys think?

The teacher may have had a misconception. Since you're feeling so guilty it would be best to go with the money and clarify the doubt. If you have to give the money then give it if it is possible. If it isn't possible to pay now consider yourself lucky to have got it for free XD.

When you see a person in need,I suggest paying it forward. Have you ever heard the term(paying it forward) ? This might relieve some of the quilt that you feel.

try to make sure. if you still need to pay for it, then do so. if not, then maybe do what Beth suggested and give it to someone in need

For all you know someone else may have paid for it for you. Any how, it's the teachers fault not yours.

Well, personally, I wouldn't pay fifty dollars for a yearbook. Like jesus isn't that a bit steep? Although, stealing is wrong. I mean it was the teacher's fault but at the same time you have a responsibility to at least ask whether the teacher was mistaken. Maybe somebody did already pay for you or maybe the teacher wanted to give it. I think maybe you should ask the teacher before making any decisions, at least.

$50 for a book of pictures of people you will forget exist 1 year after you leave high school? ......ok then.
If it bothers you that much, go pay them, or return the year book

Nah just forget about it. I don't know how many times I paid by check, it clears and the teacher tells me they "lost" my order form and I have to whip out the check copies to prove it. I'd keep that shit and not worry about it.

protip the books don't actually cost the school fifty frickin dollars I'd say at most you screw them out of 5 bucks if you keep it. students don't get paid to design them either

$50 for a yearbook?? It was only like $15 at our school!
But yeah, like what the others above have suggested, you could maybe carry the $50 with you and visit the school one day to double check through their records to see whether or not you paid? That should help clarify things :)

To be honest, i would have tried to convince them that i had payed if i hadnt. I think guilt is completely unnecessary as they obviously dont care that much if they arent paying attention to who has payed and who hasnt.
I have probably stolen about Ģ100-200 worth of stuff from my school, i wouldnt worry about a slight mess up of Ģ30(ish)

Well i've been in the school for 5 years and i just steal things because of either need or i dont have it.
I've stolen pens, pencils, markers, ping pong balls, tennis balls, a few pool balls (dont even ask, not right off the table), rubbers, sharpeners, and a lot of signs.
I havent actually bought any stationary in a couple years because the school has a lot of stuff hidden in cupolboards and no one was using them hehe.
The signs is an odd thing. I just like to steal signs, like ones for direction, or mostly theyre fire alarm ones (theyre usually adjacent to similar ones, im not evil)
I think its a little bit of an addiction :P
Almost forgot, a pair of headphones. A teacher was leaving and i figured they wouldnt get used so...

public schools really shouldn't be charging for anything anyway, that's what our tax dollars are for
everything there is free for the taking since we've technically already paid for it, or at least that's how I see it

I understand the stationery etc, because technically we're paying for them through the means of tax etc, but what do you use the signs for? :P Do you stick them on your bedroom door? Hahahah

Don't freak out over it. If you're feeling that guilty give the fifty bucks to charity, you'll be forgiven.
50 bucks is too much for a yearbook, the hell. But there's no reason to feel so guilty about it.

It's also possible that you actually did pay for it earlier in the year and just forgot about it.
I've done that several times while I was both in middle school and in high school. Life gets busy, months go by - you forget if you've actually paid for something or not.

Send them the $50 and tell them that it's a donation since you enjoyed the book so much. That should ease the awkwardness.
