View Full Version : Unable to sleep at night

As simple as the title. I can't fall asleep at all during night and no matter what I try I just end up staring at my ceiling or wall until I do something or the sun comes up. As soon as I get out of bed and start doing things though I start to pass out when writing or talking. I take 5 melatonin tablets before going to bed but it doesn't seem to have much effect. I've tried common things to change my sleep schedule but it hasn't helped. I'm thinking of going back to my GP to talk to him about it but I think he is just going to suggest giving me stronger medication but I doubt it will help.
I have also been sober during this period if that changes anything.

Not trying to promote alcohol by any means as it could lead to alcoholism if not careful. My grandfather has a shot of brandy a hour before going to bed seems to help him. But if on medication of any type not a good idea. Just a thought.

I'm looking for any solution so it couldn't hurt to try. Thanks for the advice ^_^

I don't know any anxiety exercises, do you have any in particular that might be useful? :D

Just read a very article about this and these are the tips:
1. Avoid screens (phone, tablet, pc,, whatever) an hour before bed.
2. Do lots of exercise 4 hours before bed.
3. Don't eat too much before bed.
If I'm suggesting stuff you already now, I'd recommend seeing a doctor then. GL

I haven't really tried plenty of exercise so it is worth a go, tiring myself out before bed sounds really smart. I'll make sure to try this as well thanks for the advice. I guess if it doesn't work I will have to see my GP.

you don't want to do it directly before you go to bed though

I'm definitely doing better, being much more relaxed and calm before bed gives me a good chance of falling asleep. I still have difficult but it is certainly an improvement from before. I think it is just me thinking too much about things and not being able to fall asleep till I pass out. But anyway thank you for the advice it has helped me out ^_^ I might still take up some stronger medication but at least I can hope for proper sleep.
