Are you shaving against the grain! STOP!

Maybe you don't all have the same problem I do. I got a really bad case of acne, and I soon developed some under my chin. It was then that I realized why this was - I was shaving against the grain. Most people don't think of this as causing acne, but as soon as I stopped, the acne cleared up about 70% in a month or so after I shaved with the grain.

While it may get you a closer shave, it's not worth it. Of course, maybe a quick strokes against the grain in a really persistent area once a week or so won't do too much harm, but as for shaving daily or bi-daily; stop it.

It's never been a problem for me. I found my acne to be better once I started shaving. I guess that everyone is different.

If you use a double edge razor, going against the grain is perfectly fine. In fact, many people tend to do multiple passes: with the grain then across the grain then against the grain— or something of that sort.

Does it actually matter? I've had acne basically since I was 14 or 15 (oh how I miss those days (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/album.php?albumid=3228) :().
I've been shaving regularly for about a year, but my acne has been bad forever.

I use one of those spinny electric razors, though, if that matters.

Im not a hairy person, i never have been like blonde people dont tend to be, unless theyre swedish.

I shaved little brandons village against the grain (without shaving cream, i never needed to use it just to shave my moustache, i now know what it's for) and it genuinely made me bleed in like 20 places. Shaving with the grain is a lot better, just go over it a couple times and the shave is about the same

I shave with the grain with shaving gel and one of those triple edge razors, works fine for me

Down below, go against the grain, in the shower, no gel, and triple edge as well

I still go with the grain to be safe, probably didnt help i was pretty much throwing the razor at it, but i only shave my moustache not my beard so my skills are like -4
