im wondering .. ill be 14 on sept 24 and since about last summer ive shaved my upper lip about 2 times a week. i only needed to do the same thing to the area around my chin about 1 time a week. if i dont shave my upper lip thick dark hairs become very noticable quickly, not like soft fuzzy hairs i used to have there when i was 11-12 but more "hard" and thick hairs.

but in the last months ive noticed that the area on the sides of my chin and below my chin (like upper throat) has started to get hairs that are the same type as the ones on my upper lip, not fuzzy but hard and dark. So now when i rub my fingernails against this chin area i can hear like a scratching sound and after i shave the areas it still has like a "sandpaper" feeling when i touch it.

also when i shaved there didnt use to be any trace of the hairs i shaved left but now lately even directly after ive shaved theres still tiny dark hairs/dots left in some places.

also the hair on my upper lip seem to be growing faster now and the hair on my chin seem to having started to grow almost at the same speed. oh and theres the same type of hairs growing on my lower lip, like directly below my mouth.

i have to know from anyone - hopefuly OLDER guys here who has a beard: is the "sandpaper"-stubbly hair on my chin becoming like BEARD growth???? or am i still like years away from that happening? its looking and acting like how i thought beard growth would act but beards shouldnt happen until im much older??

Yes your starting to be able to grow a beard :) the sand paper feeling is just thicker hair coming in. And it's perfectly normal to have it on your neck and lower lip as :) you'll probably get sideburns soon as well. There isn't a set age with growing facile hair everyone is different like the rest of puberty. Your not to young. I've been shaving since 12 and like you I had to shave more than my upper lip as time went on. I'm 18 in July and have friend's that are 17 that don't shave at all they never needed to. :) hope this answer's your question.

The sand paper is evil. I'm usually too lazy to shave, and even though i have a severe lack of masculinity this persistent tiny forest of stainless steel needles (at least, that's what it feels like) keeps appearing on my chin and, for some reason, in my neck. Luckily it's hardly noticeable due to it being blonde.

To answer your question- yes! There is no set age for beard growth and trying to determine an average age would be like trying to determine the average length of all the trees on this planet. Yes, you are becoming a manly man C:

Seems like bear growth to me. Beard (and moustache - the bit on your upper lip) hairs are generally thicker than the hairs on your head and when short tend to be quite stiff, hence the sandpaper feel. It seems like these hairs may not be growing as fast as they will later on but they are growing.

Your beard is going to start growing in. Just remember, the more often you shave, the faster it'll grow back. Also, avoid shaving in places you would prefer not to grow facial hair, otherwise when you decide to grow a beard you could end up with the hair coming right up to under you eyes (unless you like that look of course)

Hey that's cool! You are able to grow a beard. Uh...well, a mini beard. It won't be really a beard until you are 16 or so though.
Don't worry, you are growing at your own pace and are a totally normal teen.

Is that really true? I've been told that shaving does not make it grow faster, and shaving a place with little hair won't make it grow hair there. I guess some googling is in order....

most of them are blonde but it seems like more and more of the blonde ones are becoming darker, like some are blonde, some are dark blonde, some brown and dark brown - especially on the sides of my chin a lot seem dark brown now - and the darkest wont go completely away even after i shaved them, theres still visible "dots" left. i call them dots, i dont know what to call it?? :whoops:

Seems like bear growth to me.

hope i dont grow into a bear!

so my suspicions are true!? normally things always seem to take some time.. like hair growth other places and how its developed there but the hair on my upper lip and now the chin area... its starting to grow back so fast compared to just what it did a few months ago and i didnt know things like this could suddenly speed up this much? but this is all normal??

does it matter if i use a manual razor instead of an electric? are there any differences? how good is a manual razor?? ive always only used an electric razor, i dont own manuals, im afraid ill cut myself, it seems so painful, also now with hairs showing up on my throat.. what if you cut yourself there?? cant you like bleed really really badly??

Actually the dots may be if u don't get a close shave by electric razor. I recommend manual It feels great. And no it doesn't pain and I have never cut myself. I just shave my face once in a month or something.

In my experience it's sped up the growth and thickened it in areas where there was very little previously

everyone is different dude, but it is all to do with your jeans, (not necessarily your dads just because its a beard)
everyone's roller-coaster of puberty is in a different order, ive got a mate that still doesnt have any facial hair at almost 19, and one that used to shave often when he was 14-15.
