Then why do they ask the question? I even do it sometimes for a few silly things, but everyone's different. Any thoughts as to why this phenomenon occurs?

Some people ask because it makes them feel better about their own response which they already knew. If other people repeat it, then it seems more normal. Thus, they feel more accepted.

Others ask for clarification, or to make sure that what they are saying is actually right.

To see how stupid of a response you get. That's what I do anyways.

Those ARE the two reasons why I do it sometimes too.

people do it to assure they have the correct answer or maybe just to hear themselves talk lol

Uhh... because they want to hear and debate other viewpoints?

To see what other people will say, if I know the answer to something I'll ask someone else to confirm it

I like asking questions that I know the answer to mainly for clarification but also to challenge other people's knowledge and stuff, idk.

Well there are some things we act like we know, but really are full o shizznit so we ask to confirm. It is actually really hard to know something people just use the word willy nilly but truly are bs.

Often cases, one subconsciously doesn't feel like the question has been answered, and maybe needs more reassurance. Sometimes the person wants to hear a different answer and side. It depends on context.

To double check or to hear someone say they're right.

I usually have three reasons. Either to confirm the answer if I'm not sure or to hear other viewpoints or to test others' knowledge.
