or at least, that was the instinctual perceeption. Our 'hard-wired" concepts of what is a handsome man or a lovely woman are based upon features that (used to, at least) mean that the individual was likely to be free of diseases/deformations, etc, that would limit your chances of passing on your genes, if your mate had them. Our eyes seek symettry/balance, our ears a pleasant tone/pitch of voice, our noses notice bad smells, our skins notice imperfections of the mate's skin, our sense of taste can warn us of infections in the mate, etc. A woman's hip to waist ratio is related to her being able to have children without big problems in childbirth, and so on.

correct, everyone judges sunconsciously on how you appear as a human to them :(
High cheekbones and low browridge to protect the eyes (specifically from fists) are common traits seen as attractive. It all comes down to bone structure pretty much, such as hip width as you mentioned, since prominent bones indicate good developmental growth and strong genes

I'm actually conscious of all of those factors when I go out on dates.
One time I went on a date with someone but I ended it there because I didn't like the way they smelled.
For some inexplicable reason it really bothered me.

Some people say that they don't care about appearances, but I think that everyone does on a subconscious level
