Who here has heard of the Max Headroom Broadcast Signal Intrusion? It's from 1987 (FNAF fans, don't you dare say anything) and it's super weird and completely surreal. Basically, this guy hacked into two Chicago TV station's signals, wearing a Max Headroom mask. (if you've never seen Max Headroom, look him up.) The first station he hacked, WGN, during the 9 PM news, didn't work out so well. There wasn't audio, just a long buzzing noise. He also got shut out of their signal within 30 seconds. The reporter who was cut off by this interruption, said "Well, if you're wondering what's happened, *nervous chuckle* so am I..."

Then, at 11:00 PM on WTTW, it got weirder. During a broadcast of the Doctor Who episode "Horror of Fang Rock", he returned. This time, everything went smooth. The audio worked, and he couldn't get shut down, as there were no engineers on duty at the Sears Tower, WTTW's broadcaster, at that time of night. He began to say some completely bizarre stuff, with an eerie distortion on his voice. At one point, he held up a Pepsi can, saying the Coke slogan, "catch the wave", as Max Headroom was a sponsor for Coke. At another, he slipped a dildo on his middle finger and flipped off the camera. He moaned at many random points. Then, suddenly, the camera jump-cutted. There he was, bent over a table with his ass out. A person with a maid costume on held a flyswatter. "Max" shouted, "Ooooh, they're coming to get me!!!" The person in the maid costume said, in a bored tone, "Bend over, bitch." She began to swat "Max's" ass with the flyswatter. He moaned in pain, "Ooooh, make it stop! Make it stop! Auuuggh..." The signal cut out. No one at the Sears Tower had shut him down, he had stopped it himself. This intrusion lasted for 90 seconds. The Doctor Who episode cut back in. Then, everything went on as normal. Absolutely bizarre.

I've heard of this and watched it. I must also add that anyone who is going to look this up on YouTube after reading this post should know that it is inappropriate and very creepy at some points if you're sensitive to this sort of thing.

Anyways, it must've been quite the feat to be able to hack in to such a largely watched channel like that. It would've been absolutely bizarre to have seen that live as it happened.

I would also like to add that the "Max Headroom" culprit has never been found to this day. His identity remains a mystery.

Yes! Definitely very creepy. I've become immune to it now, so it doesn't bother me. I did forget to add that he hasn't been caught. He could actually speak out now, as the statute of limitations is up for him.

My dad has the whole Max collection and I just got so into it a few years ago. I looked up Max on Wikipedia and that's where I found out about the hack. Awesome!
