L.A. labor leaders seek minimum wage exemption for firms with union workers.
Labor leaders, who were among the strongest supporters of the city wide minimum wage increase approved last week by Los Angeles City Council, are advocating last-minute changes to the law that could create an exemption for companies with unionized workforces.

I am not too sure if the unionised workers themselves would want this exemption...

Aren't the unions supposed to represent the workers' interests?

The idea of labor unions has become so twisted. It isn't even in the best interest of the workers anymore. It's all business and capital, now.

Unions can be quite useful as its a group on your side of the company tries to screw you over. I wish my store was a union store

That's their stated purpose. That's what workers unions were originally made for: protecting the rights of the worker and ensuring fair wages. Now unions are nothing more than profit and political machines.

The union will only take your side if you have evidence to back up your claim. I've seen plenty of people who are part of unions think that their union would protect them and the union said that there was nothing to be done. It happens very often, and most people think that unions will always take the side of the worker, but they don't.
