I think that it should be legalized because of the fact that everyone still finds some ways to get it and that, from what I have been told, does not do as much damage as some of the other legal things out there that anyone can get. I just think that they just put an age limit on it everywhere like they do with cigarettes and alcohol and let it happen, because like I said, it's gonna happen anyway so might as well make the government a little money, right?

In my opinion, it should be legalized. It's no better than drinking or just normal smoking, and those are permitted. As long as you put some sort of regulations on it(age regulations and such), then I think it should totally be legal.

I believe it should, but with laws about it.
Like smoking a cigarette, you may not smoke it indoors (Unless allowed to live at a bar, or maybe not even then).
You may not smoke it while driving.
And the basics. I believe it should be legal, but you have to be responsible about it"

I think it should be legal but regulated. It should be treated sort of like alcohol, but perhaps less strictly regulated.

Yup legalise it everyone gets hold of it somehow most people have tried it all your doing is letting drug dealers make more money from selling it if it were legal and regulated the money would not go to drug dealers

I think it's worth legalising. The government could make good money off of taxing it too. Nicotine and alcohol have killed many but this 'illegal' drug has rarely had much of a negative effect that wasn't the users own fault. I feel like a lot of good people have had yo spend time in prison because of it which is sad because they could be young adults simply going through a phase.

l'm not sure, it would depend on what regulations and controls were in place.

I don't really see why not although I wouldn't want my neighbours having a massive pot plantation

Yes, it's ludicrous that it's not already. Think of the amount of lives that alcohol takes, drink driving and alcoholism must kill in their thousands. How many people have ever overdosed smoking a joint?
The only thing that the system in place does at the moment is make me interact with a drug dealer, and provide organised gangs with money.
Just legalise it and tax it to fuck - win:win situation for us and government.

I say yes because in some places it already is and its doing great there and plus if its legalized the government can tax it and get more money to fix the potholes in the roads... so many potholes

I used to think it should be semi-legal and regulated in the same vein as alcohol and tobacco (so to speak) but lately I've decided it should just be full-bore legal, like caffeine. cannabis is so ubiquitous that attempting to tax it would just be pissing into the wind, and it's not harmful enough to worry about, imo

the taxes we already pay should be more than sufficient for this, too bad the money goes to Jimbob's food stamp card instead (and then into PepsiCo's bank account)

If it was legalized it would definitely go out of hand. Age restrictions and some laws are good, otherwise I don't mind.

Personally, I don't think weed should be, but it would help our economy.

Yeah probably. Like alcohol though not to be consumed at work.
It seems to be becoming more socially acceptable and like alcohol kids think it's 'cool' and brag about taking it to their friends as if it's something to be proud of.

Assuming you are talking about in the USA, Yeah, it should be legal. I'm sure the government will regulate it and tax it. And that's fine, it needs to be regulated at least as well as food it, or even as a drug or like alcohol/tobacco.
But people use it anyway, so why not control it? In the countries where it is legal, it hasn't created much of an issue, in fact less of an issue than alcohol in most cases.

As far as I know, cannabis is a very mild drug that could easily be compared to the likes of alcohol, smoking or caffeine. Obviously, if it's legalised, it should be regulated as with any other depressant/stimulant such as alcohol or nicotine.
In my opinion, it should be legalised because it would clear a lot of jail cells that house weed-takers, who are pretty much harmless and typically shouldn't be in there in the first place.
As long as people aren't high out of their minds everyday, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Plus, the amount of people on Instagram that take pictures of their drug paraphernalia and weed nuggets clearly show that they're not particularly afraid of the law.

"people use it anyway therefore it should be legal" is a dumb argument. I think it works for weed and maybe a couple other low-risk substances, but those with a high harm potential/toxicity are too dangerous to ease up on. no we'll never be able to catch or prevent everyone who shoots up heroin but that doesn't mean we shouldn't crack down on its use (we'll also never catch all murderers but we still try anyway, right?) meth in particular is a seriously evil drug that does catastrophic, irreversible organ damage and sends crime rates through the roof
but of course for the law to mean anything, it would need to be backed by actual, hardcore, consistent enforcement, and by that I mean military police dragging meth cooks out of their trailers, kneeling them on the ground and shooting them in the head. but this namby-pamby gotta have a warrant stuff won't do shit obviously, my state is crawling with hordes of the Tweaking Dead even though meth is, you know, a megafelony (supposedly)
tl;dr legalize the ganja & shrooms, purge everything else

Legal but regulated in the variation of species, the concentratoin of THC, where/when it can be sold in proximity of other places geographically speaking.
But legal nonetheless.
Also laws need to be stricter and clearer regarding driving under the influence of Drugs, rather than Alcohol.
Unfortunately prosecutors of the law have trouble here as lots of prescription drugs cause problems for drivers, yet they're needed medicines, resulting in tragedies being one of misfortune (an accident) since the intent of maliciousness isn't there for murder in 1st or 2nd degree.
Weed also has that ability for the high to wear off yet still be detectable in your body, even though the high and compromised judgment might be long gone. The law has to address those logistics as well as does the general public. If it's legalized the public has to consent to being harassed more and probably accused and discriminated against because of tests.
Also employers might make you lose your job if they detect weed in the body (i.e. hair, blood etc). It wouldn't be a crime but it'll have consequences for you.

The prohibition on marijuana in society it beyond stupid. There is no practical reason for any government to ban this substance. I don't advocate for the use of the drug, but I advocate for personal responsibility. If an able minded adult wants to use a weak narcotic (defining weak as something that doesn't cause out front violent behavior) they should be to use it. However, it should come attached with a monetary burden of heavy taxes. The same kind of "sin tax" on tobacco and alcohol should be applied to marijuana. This tax should not only be imposed on the product but on a person's state or municipal tax.

I think sales tax and a consumption tax needs to be levied across the nation.
So the amount of what you use in resources is ratio accurate to what you put into the systems.
It also grants the individual a sense of control of cutting back their household individual spending if they had too.
In return income taxes can be reduced significantly since the rich don't really pay income taxes like the middle and poor tax brackets do.

Would you prefer it if we shot all the meth cooks in the heads with military police?
I think that's taking it a bit too far. I take your position and all, but that would do more harm than good.
Of course, you could've been joking. Oh well.

Well legitimate corporations in not just America, but Japan as well NEED to demand less of their workers both in time and need to increase, sick days, vacation, and have a more kind and realistic policy for single and pregnant females to help society grow in other ways.
All corporations need to simultaneously have those requirements enacted so no corporation gains an advantage over another.
Also some economists say adding vacation days helps the economy, because it allows time for those who worked and have money to spend, rather than be stuck at work where they can't spend it.
I've done the calculations and if you make $12 an hour (which is not the minimum wage in most places) and you take in the expenses of rent, food,

Personally, I have lots of anecdotal reasons why it should not be legal. Honestly, tobacco should be illegal too. Smoking tobacco and weed has devastated my parents' generation in my family. If people want the medical benefits, why do they need to smoke marijuana anyways. I am pretty sure they have extracts for all of those things like THC. And also I read this article saying newer strains of marijuana are becoming more potent. The article also stated that this will have a negative affect on the teenage brain especially when it comes to logical interpretation like numbers. And teens have plenty of weed already too, so legalization will make weed as commonplace as under age drinking. The argument that the prisons are clogged with too many light drug users is true. But ultimately I believe that the state should not be supporting drug use and that the state should discourage its recreational use especially. This is just my two cents and I just wrote this off the top of my head so don't hate me.

Where I live, weed already is as commonplace as under-age drinking. Maybe even more common.

Prohibition hasn't done any good for anyone (except for the DEA!).
Legalisation has so far done good things for the states where it has been introduced, as it has lowered the amount of money going to illegal drug distributors, such as the Mexican cartels.
Legalisation would also mean regulation, which means more tax money for the government, and a tighter control on quality, additives, and farming, etc...
It would also theoretically solve the issue with it being a gateway drug, as the purchases wouldn't be made from a dealer selling other things, and offering hard drugs, and the culture of marijuana would be normalised, and thus eliminate the association with harder-drugs.
It would also mean the police have to spend less on meaningless petty drug searches.
I'm all for it.
The only issue I worry for is that of large scale government lobbying, and corporatism in general. However this issue blights many an industry, and is a separate issue that has to be tackled in and of its own right.

I feel it should be legalized, but under the same stipulations as alcohol: Must be over 18, need a license to grow/sell it, can't smoke it in a public place, can't drive while high, you get the picture.
Also, they should have a max quantity they can sell to a person at one time (eg. 1 gram per person limit).
Yeah, weed is kind of dangerous in that it kills brain cells. Yeah, kids will be able to get a hold of it more easily. But maybe if the kids can get weed more easily, they'll be less likely to use more hardcore party drugs like Xanax and Molly...
