Hi, so last month my family traveled to Ohio from Texas to celebrate my greatgrandmother's 90th birthday. On the way there we had a flat tire, and on the way back another flat. So it was a pretty expensive trip (we ended up replacing all 4, staying at a hotel for 2 days, and overnighting a spare key after the original got washed) and since then money has been tight. On top of that I haven't been to the orthodontist (one month overdue in 2 weeks) and me and my sister's phones have been disconnected due to the bill being overdue. I honestly have no idea what to do. Especially considering the fact that I am 14 years old. I have tried to see if I can get a job to help out because I just feel really bad because my parents work very hard and they don't deserve to be in such a situation. I entered a contest for an apple watch late last month and got 3rd place so I get a $100 gift card. Now of course I want to use it on myself but I also want to help my parents out. So now I am in a pickle because I don't know whether to use it towards an Apple Watch (I already have $139 in Bestbuy credit) or use it to help bring my phone bill down or my orthodontist. My phone bill is really high and will continue to be until it is paid in full and I do not think I can win 7 more contests. I have heard the apple watch is not worth it but don't know what to do. Please if you have any advice, feel free to share! :)

I think you should probably pay for your phone bill if it's high because that's more of your responsibility. Though once you start earning more money in a job later one then of course it's best to always help your parents and others first.

pay your phone bill. also, see if you can make your own job, like mowing lawns or washing and detailing peoples cars for them.

Well the apple watch is having technical problems and it doesn't have full functionality if it isn't near your iPhone and since your phone is disconnected buying it would be a moot point.

So I'd strongly recommend NOT buying the iWatch til Apple gets it's game together.

You are only 14, so legally you cannot be hired anywhere (i discovered that from personal experience).

Best you can do is sit tight and hold off on spending and be cautious not to break any more stuff that needs replacing.

Another option is to ask extended family members for help.

I disagree teeth are very important since you live in the USA.

Keep em clean and white as possible.

Aw. This is a very touching story, kudo's to you. I think that, moralistically and tactically, the best thing to do would be to use the money to help your parents or pay off the phone bill and wait to get the Apple Watch some other time. The orthodontist I believe can wait, but I don't really know enough about how orthdoontics are regulated in America to give an opinion on that

I am a guy haha. And when we renewed our contracts they chose to put me and my sister on the monthly installment plans so I am sure they are capable of paying for it because if they weren't they wouldn't have done so. It's just that the timing is bad considering the circumstances.

Thanks for the support! I think that's what I'll do. The  Watch is still a Gen 1 device and has room to get better so I think I'll wait. My mother has said that we may go to the orthodontist after school gets out (June 5th) so I think everything is going back to normal soon as she wants to schedule doctor, ortho, and dentist appointments on the same day. I am planning to (whenever it arrives) to use the $100 to bring down the bill even if it isn't a lot (I checked and I'll need to win almost 7 more contests). My grandpa even tried to help but my father declined his offer.

Brush em after every meal + twice in the morning and before bed ;) And as a matter of fact the phones were disconnected when we were at our grandparents house and my grandpa even asked how much the bill was (he'd seriously pay whatever amount right then and there) but my father declined his offer. But I am sure that may just happen given how much my grandparents love to help us out. Yeah the  watch does need some work. I planned on using it for my runs but the lack of GPS is like going back in time. In the state of Texas I can work, but there are literally no places that hire at that age. I try to keep the place in order, its my destructive 9 year old brother I have to keep an eye on. XD
-sorry for answering out of order- thanks for the advice and support!

Oh pff, wait 9 years then to buy the apple iwatch then.

The new information regarding having a destructive little sibling has made me revise the advice I've given you to be more specific.

Do not buy expensive luxury items until your destructive siblings have grown up and matured a bit more.

Bank that $, and then cash out as an adult on some superb stuff, and the benefit of waiting is that the technology will only get better and better with probably more functionality.

Also I am upset at your dad for turning down your grandfather's help. Those kind of decisions are influenced by pride, not logically necessity.

Hence your age on getting jobs, you could help neighbouring houses with their chores and get money from them.

Jobs could be like: babysitting, mowing lawns, walking dogs, etc.
