View Full Version : Redneck school is extremely brain-dead

So to the eyes of 99.9% of people, I am a "normal", straight male. I'm not, but I'm going to keep it that way for now. Makes things easier.
Today was "Prevention of Homophobia" day at school. Great.
LITERALLY every single comment I eased-dropped on have been extremely sarcastic and negative.
Not only is this a high school for a rural area, but this entire damned province is like a redneck breeding ground.
"Hey, what's this here fucking rainbow shit for eh bud?" (Redneck 1)
"Ah..., I think it's for gay day or something" (Redneck 2)
I saw someone look at a blurb on the wall about transgendered people being harassed, and the guy said "Sweet".
I've been with some of these people since kindergarten. HOW MANNY presentations, days, flags, banners, special guests, etc. does it take to turn these assholes around?
LITERALLY no dent has been made.
P.E.I is like the mini-south of Canada, and I'm sick of it.
Sorry, this has been a rant, comment if you must. XD

No amount of presentations, days, or flags will change their thinking. Ignorant people are generally ignorant of their ignorance
So how do you stop there harassment?

i'm not gay so take this with a grain of salt, but I would recommend just staying in the closet until you're out of that school.
That's actually the plan. No offence to any other LGBTQ+ people, but I'm stronger than alot of you. I'm going to securely lock it in side until I put a long distance (however many miles Canada is across, lol) between me and this world.
Actually its part of a highly complex plan that (trust me) would take a couple paragraphs to explain.
Anyway, these rednecks man.... XD

d'aww how adorable  I'll trade you schools bro. rednecks are awesome, especially the undercover bisexual ones lol
best lay of my life was with a cishet bigot who goes huntin and fishin and likes Brad Paisley and John Deere tractors. if you haven't had awkward, neck-straining oral sex in the back of a mudded-up truck, you haven't lived, my friend :D

Eh, I begrudgingly accepted the fact that the majority of homophobia will die with homophobes, particularly in areas where it's more prevalent. It sucks, but I've had very few encounters with bigots that ended with them actually learning something. That's not to say awareness and educational campaigns and telling off homophobes are pointless endeavors though.

Trust me, at schools like mine, it pretty much is a pointless endeavor. Not as a concept though.

Rednecks are always going to be rednecks, but LGBT's also need to accept that there are people who will never approve of them regardless of what education or awareness campaigns are in place. l'm straight, but l don't judge people for their lifestyle either btw

That's great. :)
Lesbian stuff gets brought up less, but when it does the girls kind of just don't say anything, and with other times I've witnessed, I'm pretty sure alot of them are homophobic. :(

Yeah, being bi or bi curious seem to be a lot more readily accepted for girls than boys.

I live in a rural area of the USA and we have more than our share of haters. They hate every thing and every body. No amount of effort at enlightening them seems to have much success in changing attitudes. HOWEVER, the effort should continue. In fact if we are to make the world a better place for all we much make every effort to bring about compassion and acceptance. In conversations with my grandfather (he is 75 years young) I know that many ideals we take for granted today were the "sins" of his day. Change does happen, but slowly. So don't give up, just keep calm and keep going.

I think we can all agree bigots suck!
I live in a suburban neighborhood right next to rural county. Many people at my school were bigoted and ignorant; and not just regarding sexuality! Unfortunately ignorant people are usually too ignorant to see their own ignorance and hypocrisy. Short of a powerful and personal wake up call, progress is best made when the voice of society starts to echo open minded youth and not those who are stuck in their ways.

Tell me about it. They're just too stubborn to admit someone calling them out on their bigotry is correct and not their close-minded opinion.

When raised ignorant, ignorance sticks. Country people don't always have much variety. That's why much of them are racist too. I'm not speaking to the whole rural population, but it's a trend.

A lot less than you think are actually racist, most of it nowadays is hating obama (because of the gun control thingy) democrats in general, and id say around 1/3 here are homophobic. At least where I live, most people just don't care about it much. If you start to hit on them they would probably freak, but other than that they do them and you do you. Unless your a democrat.

Meh, for me, the best route to happiness is to just accept the impermanence of these things. Understanding that these things shift and wane with time, and that they are simply a small part of a much bigger equation normally makes me feel better. Sure though, it super-sucks when you actually have to listen to these people. You'll sure make it through though.

Ahh..rednecks. They don't take kindly to education for the most part. Just try to filter out their bile and wait until you can get the hell out of that area to a place that's more accepting and less stupid.
