So I was wanting to know at what age did you first retract your foreskin, and was it a shock first time it happened ?

I'll start so I was about 8 and it was a complete shock I didn't know what happened, I was never told about it coming back (my dad is cut)

I was relieved when it finally happened because my doctor talked about surgery already.

A visiting school nurse did it when I was little, so I guess I always knew about it from watching her that one time. Thinking back now, there was perhaps a little irony in her rolling up her sleeves to do it :).

I've always been able to pull mine back. When I was little I had a friend who was cut, and I remember thinking that it was weird that my foreskin wouldn't stay up like his (because I thought his was just always up, not gone :P).

I don't think there was really a first time. To my knowledge I've always been able to do it.

At 8 or 9 my doctor did it and said everything is fine because often the foreskin is sticking together with the head of the dick and it cannot be retracted before the boy hits puberty. The next I remember was mom pulling it back when giving me my bath and lathering me there. Later dad explained to me how I have to properly clean myself, although mom did my baths still till I was around 10.

Yes, I might have been late, but some people have it later than others.

Yeah, that's what my doctor told me (Not that he retracts it in bath..) when I was 3-4 years old. It was always the classic dialog when I came out of shower. "Did you wash your hair?" Yes, mom. "Did you retract your foreskin and wash it?" Yes, mom.
I'm actually suprised by how many of you didn't retract it until puberty. How could you not wash it? :O :$

When I was 11 I could pull it back early bath when the skin was stuck to the skin hard when the pain was leaving, I was shocked that I did not know the time the skin was gathered Smgma

I'm starting to think this is a cultural thing. One poster above mentioned his dad was cut, so it probably never occurred to the parents to teach the kid to wash under his foreskin. But I think too that a lot of moms dont want to say anything, like they are uncomfortable with that dialog, or maybe just assume boys understand all this stuff from birth. Which of course is ridiculous.

My theory started to develop, when a friend was over once. We had been swimming in this irrigation canal thing (which I am sure was against the law, but that's a different issue). We came in and my mom made us take a shower because we smelled like the canal. After, she still did the "Did you..." routine, which she still does all the time even though I'm 15. So she asked if I'd washed my hair twice to get the bugs and germs out, and if I'd retracted my foreskin, and washed behind my scrotum. Normal stuff, and I just answered normal (yes mom, yes mom, yes mom). But my friend just like was staring at me like he was in shock. Afterward, he was like, "Your mom asked you about your dick. That's totally weird. I don't think my mom even knows if I have a dick." That started me thinking that parents that grew up in a society where they never talked about it, still don't talk about it with their own kids.

Kind of frightening, actually. Cleaning under your foreskin as a little kid not only keeps it clean, but it keeps your foreskin from tightening during puberty too. Which, judging from this forum, is an issue for a lot of boys.

I can't remember a specific age. What I do remember is that at some point, probably around the beginning of puberty, my penis seemed to become much more interesting and the fact the foreskin would go all the way back behind the head was one of the things I discovered. I was more intrigued than shocked.
