ummm i dont see why it would hurt you bones. ive been lifting weights for a long time since i was 11 because im an athlete. i work out for two hours 4 days a week plus i jog every day. theres no problem with lifting weights. But dont over due it. As well as that means you need to eat more nutrience. more meat and GREEN vegi's. if your mom really doesnt want you lifting weights try running.

You shouldn't be lifting weights really at all until you've got plenty of pubes.

At that point, you're bones will have hardened enough that excessive lifting won't bend them.

For you, do push-ups, pull-ups, sit-up, and toe-ups. Do these consistently, and properly, and use variations of them, and you'll be building muscle, endurance and overall athleticism.

Be sure to jog regularly too. Don't over do it, don't under do it. Your jogging plan should be built around your age, weight, height and cardiovascular health.

At 13 years old, I don't really see a point to trying to get muscles in the chest, arms, or anywhere for that matter. After you start puberty, your muscles will grow larger seemingly on their own due to activity usually caused by testosterone.

Your mother may have a slight point, since when you start puberty, your bones will be growing at a much higher rate than ever before. The newer bone produced (or at the edges of shafts where cells are greatly produced) may be weaker than normal bone. When you stop growing taller, you can definitely lift weights without it hurting your bones - if anything, it would help your bones become stronger.

Yeah, you really can't start lifting weights until you're body starts to mature more. You have a lot of muscle already, it's just hidden under a small layer of fat. Loose a litte weight, and some muscle may emerge.

Lifting weights at 13 is a perfectly fine thing to do. There is nothing wrong with it. It will make you healthier, stronger, you can improve your technique earlier (since you do need to have a correct technique), improve self-confidence, make you hotter and more built, and many doctors recommend that older women lift weights to prevent ostioporosis because it actually strengthens your bones.

I suggest you talk with a trainer at a gym and get them to talk to your mom so your concerns can be lifted. Although most gyms require that you must be 14-16 to lift on your own, you may encourage your parents to start excercising, too!

Also, ask your coach at your school. My school and the high school offer a weight training class and it's one of the best things I've ever done.

So yeah, ask coaches and trainers for your options, so you can get stronger and be better in the game!

Actually, I'm pretty sure lifting weights when you're too young can be fairly damaging... Maybe not, but I wouldn't take that chance... I suggest many push-ups, those work for everyone!:D

Push Ups sit ups crunches do as many as you can a night... Also ask a fitness coach for a training guide! There are so many more safe/easy/age right ways for you to get stronger!

Doing any kind of excercise at night isn't a good idea, because you probably won't get the protein you need afterwards (you should eat protein after you excercise, and if you do it just before ou go to bed, your won't get that protein from a meal to nourish your muscles). Also, excercising before you go to bed isn't a good idea because it increases blood flow and wakes up your mind, so you'll stay up later.
I've never been able to crash after doing pushups just before I go to bed, so really dude, it's not a good idea to excercise before you go to bed. Try getting in a gym or excercising during the day or in the afternoon before dinner!

yeah, but 13 isn't that young

After you start puberty, your muscles will grow larger seemingly on their own due to activity usually caused by testosterone.
It's true that your muscles will be bigger after puberty, but how much bigger they are depends on your genes.
Really, puberty and hormones aren't something to rely on to get you stronger and more fit (and hotter) and you should try learning how to lift weights!

You can really make huge progress, especially if you do the techniques right (because it's definately gonna damage you if you don't lift with the right technique).

Just don't push it to hard, and don't go in over-confident thinking you can lift more than you actually can.

Lifting weights is FINE. The only problem would be if you do it excessivly and damage your bones and muscles. But thats pretty hard to do. Dont lift too heavy when starting, lots of reps and sets.

as others have said lifting weights at 13 isnt a bad thing- most studies show it promotes healthy bones, and helps maintain a healthy lifestyle
just dont overdo it- as in, dont push yourself to exhaustion and dont do any weight until you can do 15 reps of it

i agree and if u want to try and lift some decent weight make sure u have a spotter. also it is going to take a while to get big muscles. u might not even get them until next season.
