Hmm, I don't know where else to post this so I guess I'll post it here. :whoops: I cut my hair because my mom put a perm in it. It made my hair thin and straight and I hated it. I wanted my natural hair back, so I cut off this old hair and got dreads in my hair. Anyway, my entire family absolutely hates my hair. My grandmother insulted it to the point of making me cry. My dad called them dirty and smelly, lol. My aunts said it was the signature hairstyle of bums. When I went to church with my new dreads, everyone literally looked at me with disgusted faces. It's a freaking hairstyle...I don't see the big deal. I'm not cutting them off because they've already locked up and I don't want to be bald. My whole family gets into heated arguments with me about my freaking hair and even suggests I cut it off and get a weave. I really love my dreads but my family is driving me insane because instead of showing remotely any love for me as a person, they go beserk over my hair and act like they suddenly hate me. ITS HAIR. I know this was probably a really stupid rant, but does anyone have a way I can get my family, friends, whatever, to accept my freaking hairstyle? They just won't let go about my hair.

Dear god tell me about it, I cut my hair to my chin and dyed it blue and my whole family makes jokes about it and they look at me as though I'm a creature thats just surfaced from the bottom of the ocean [ha, blue hair pun, never gets old (it really does)].

Honestly, I don't have any other advice than to just try and make them see that THIS is how you feel comfortable. You have to deal with looking at yourself in the mirror and being able to stand what you see so if you love your hair then they should bloody support that. If need be scream at them until they hear you because yeah, for the first couple of weeks staring and funny looks are acceptable but after that they just need to get over the fact that, that is you and you shouldn't have to change yourself to please them.

If you keep your dreads clean and care for them properly then there's no reason why they'd be dirty. Its only a minority of people with dreads that give the rest of the people with them a bad name, which is just like anything else, eh. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
