View Full Version : Losing control

Not much to say here. I feel like I'm losing control of my life.
It feels like I'm falling behind in class, behind in questions, not having the motivation to do the work, homework, whatever.
It feels like some of the things I used to enjoy: Playing piano, my games, hell even the work, I'm just not enjoying anymore.
Plus some of my friends feel like they're drifting away, and I just feel alone.
Never had a girlfriend that really cares, though I do have a really good friend but sometimes it feels like her own troubles are too big for her to care about anybody else.
I need help, please...

To try and help you with this I need to know one thing: Do you think you have depression or are "just" having a bad time? Some of the things you mentioned, like not enjoying the things you used to love to do, can be symptoms of a depression. If you're unsure about it, you can also always do some tests online. (I wouldn't always recommend that since if every test I ever made was right, I would already be dead about three times, but in this situation it can be pretty helpful to get a general idea.)
Gonna return with some advice once you've answered. ♥

I think I'm depressed. My dad says "You're just going through a phase, I know what it's like"
But he forgets that for him, that was over 30 years ago. He doesn't understand what I'm going through.
If it's any help, I started cutting but almost instantly stopped, but only because I couldn't find a place to cut where my parents won't find out.

Sorry I didn't answer yet. My mind tricked me into thinking I'd already done that. e_e
So... My advice on your problem is: Get professional help.
I'd suggest that you talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Just tell him how bad you feel at the moment and that you think you're more than just a little down. The most important thing with that is: Be honest and open with your doctor. I know how hard this is, especially when you've hidden your depression so far. But just keep in mind that its their job to listen to you and that everything you're telling them is confidential.
The point is that they'll be able to judge if you're in need of psychiatric attention and can recommend you a therapist. Plus, even if I don't know your father, I'm pretty sure he'll believe that it's not "just a phase" when it's confirmed by a doctor.
In fact, I had the same problem with my dad. Even after I've had the symptoms for over a year, he didn't believe I had a real depression. He thought I was just having some issues with puberty. That was until he found a bunch of razor blades in my room and basically dragged me to the hospital, where a psychiatrist talked to me and afterwards told my parents that she was pretty sure I had depression.
From then on, everything changed for the better. So overall I can say that recovering from depression is exhausting and can take hella lot of time (and I'm probably not even halfway through it, yet) but it's always better than doing nothing, wasting all this potential happiness!
Stay strong!
