so a few days ago my old Galaxy Nexus crapped out on me so I donned a HAZMAT suit, popped into Wally World and picked up a Lumia 635 for the unbeatable price of $49.88 + tax. I'm on one of AT&T's prepaid plans and this phone is sold as an AT&T GoPhone so all I had to do was buy the phone and then call AT&T to register a new SIM (the 635 uses a micro-SIM and my old phone a standard SIM).
I'm new to Windows Phone but so far I'm p.impressed by it. the OS is very smooth and 100% lag-free. very responsive and quite unlike laggy ass Android. I don't like the tile thingies on desktop Windows but they work okay on a phone UI. Internet Explorer doesn't suck anymore! it's got the smoothness of iOS without the Apple Tax, basically.
I also forgot how nice Nokia's hardware is. it's a very sturdy phone and has some heft to it, and isn't flimsy like I was expecting for the price. and last but not least, it has a fuckin' MicroSD slot, which I've been deprived of on my old Nexus because Google are jackasses. I nabbed a 64GB Samsung Micro-SDXC card and filled it up with tunes, and it makes a much better music player than the shitty, laggy player on Android. did I mention how slow and laggy Android is? :D
anyway, that's about it I guess. if you live in the US and want a sweet ass phone for a steal and don't mind giving money to Walmart (ick) you should definitely check this out.

What is your carrier plans? How much are you paying weekly and how much do you get? Unlimited or what?

phuckphace as far as i know Nokia has been bought by Microsoft. So isn't it a Microsoft Lumia 635? I don't think they're selling phones as Nokia Lumia anymore.
I'm a Lumia user too and apart from the OS becoming slightly slower ever since the 8.1 launch, it's pretty awesome :metal:

I'm on their new $60/month plan with unlimited talk, text and 4GB of data. before I was paying $40 for 250 minutes and 500MB of data, so this isn't bad.

it's branded as a Nokia phone on the front and back, but yes technically it's a Microsoft phone I suppose.
interestingly, the specs of the US version have been gimped compared to the int'l one - 512MB of RAM instead of 1GB - but then again that's still more than enough for Windows Phone since it's much more optimized than Android.

That's not too bad.
I'm paying $30/monthly with unlimited Talk, Text, And Data. And I start out with 2.5GB of high speed data. Even though with 4G I still get high speed.
$30/m for unlimited everything sounds better :D

Those speeds are better than my speeds with Comshit.. Err, I mean Shitcast.. Comcast....
But from what I can tell, you got a pretty damn good deal with that phone and plan. But I must ask, why all the hate on Android? Sure, it has it's share of bugs and problems, but it's still a rather decent OS.

all data plans have caps, even if it's advertised as unlimited. so after your data allowance is used up they throttle your speed down to dial-up speeds.

I've been an Android user for years, but after a while I just got tired of Androids' "plug and pray" bullshit - it's always hit or miss if something is going to work or not. like internet tethering for example: on my new phone all I have to do is press one button and it "just works", but on Android your only option is a third party app, PDANet, which gets updated maybe once in 2 years and never works half the time. even a simple task like posting was a chore because the lag would slow the cursor to a crawl.

Well, I mean, you were using a Galaxy Nexus. That phone came out in what, 2011?
That's like an iPhone 4 running iOS 7. It's shit.
And tethering on Android is just as simple? Settings--More--Tethering & Personal Hotspot?
But, yeah, WP is a really good OS. I was going to get an HTC One M8 Windows Phone version before I decided on my Nexus 6. Lack of app support was the thing that held me back. But, with the Android app support now for WP, it might be finally turning around.

I realize I can't make a direct comparison because it's a newer phone, but there's really no excuse for a phone with a dual-core processor and 684 MB of RAM to lag out to a crawl while doing something as simple as typing out a forum post.
I've still got my Android tablet with 5.1 on it, which isn't as bad. just shows how silly it is that Android needs a quadcore Tegra to browse the internet without lagging out.
I agree the WP app store selection is pretty laughable, but then again it has all the apps that I really use so I don't count it as too great a loss.

Warning from a 635 owner: this phone will crap out sooner than most phones. I already reset the entire thing once and it's getting super crappy again.

Less then a year. Get slow, glitchy, and generally strange.

intredasting. well apparently the 635 is getting Windows 10 when it comes out so maybe that'll fix it (provided the glitches are software and not hardware-associated)

Possibly. Windows Mobile 8/8.1 is far from perfect. XD
