So, my dad failed to install a new hard drive in his Dell laptop. So he gave up and bought a new one, told me if I could fix it, I could keep it. I accepted the challenge, and lo, I have fixed it. Scored a free laptop.

But, as I'm trying to setup windows 7, my mouse pad isn't working. D: The keyboard works, but, the mousepad doesn't.

Anyone know what could be causing this? A loose ribbon? I'm stumped.

I was going to try and connect a USB mouse to it when I get home, and see if that works.

Drivers may be bad. Check the connections first, and then see about the drivers.

Sounds like maybe the touch sensors may be going bad. What's the current condition of the laptop? Has it been dropped or any liquid spilled on it?

It was the drivers. :P I forgot we had done a complete wipe. Installing those now.

Well seeing that I'm desky I suggest you get a mouse, way better than mouse pads. But first check connections in the laptop its possible you or your Dad forgot to replug it in after cleaning it or working on it, drivers could be a problem, and secondly your sensors could be going in it, so back to the buy a mouse solution.

*edit oops, never mind, didn't see your success post :P
