I don't know where to post this, so I'll leave it to the mods.
Yeah, I'm from Europe, the country where I'm at(not going to mention it, due to people finding out my true superhero identity) has a few NATO bases set up.
Not long ago, one NATO soldier punched a teenager in the face. Was drunk as hell.
Not the first time NATO soldiers have been in conflict with the locals here.
A lot of the inhabitants of the town said they see them drinking heavily during the night, that they make fun of the women, looking for prostitutes, etc.
No, the kid's parents did not charge that person that punched him, and the law ain't doing an investigation on this. The kid's parents were asked why they're doing nothing, they refused to speak. Whaaa? Why you do this?
Yeah, the kid was just walking on the street and the soldier was pissed and he punched him. Some rumors I heard about drug dealing being involved with these soldiers.
Good one, bros. Foreign soldiers treating citizens like trash here. Much respect, much wow, such law. Nice to see some class A soldiers being all trendy in front of everyone. Why punch a kid, bro? Go fight a boxer or something. Alcoholism in soldiers ain't good at all.

Well, first of anything I think it would be better if this thread was posted in ROT,since it looks like going to turn into a debate.
Anyway I can't say anything about this matter, because the last time Political Immunity Law for foreign forces used to exist here was about 40 years ago and before the revolution, but according to what we were taught about it,if a foreign (American particularly) recruit would beat an Iranian Colonel in his home,he was not allowed and able to do him any harm or sue him.
So yes,if this is the same there or just a little better, then it sounds ...

Thanks, i'll report the thread to have it moved.
Ain't no Political Immunity Law for foreign forces here, though they're respected greatly by the politicians here.
Every leading politician here would kiss NATO's ass.
A lot of protests going on, but no one cares.
And yes, all of a sudden we're buying war equipment from the USA, jet planes, military vehicles, etc.
Haven't had a proper army here for a long time, and now we're just deciding to get back in the action, with the help of NATO at that.
Okay, bro. Do your job, just lay off the civilians.
Got a bad feeling about the future.

It seems that your country is either in Eastern Europe or Scandinavia or Germany right?
Anyway at last your government will have no other choice except to do what the majority of your people demand,if that is what majority really want, that your government doesn't just pass by such incidents easily without showing proper reaction to them.
Actually that "Law" which I mentioned above lit some of the first sparks of 1979 Revolution in here, but since such law doesn't exist there and your government doesn't seem to be as bad as Shah's was,so I believe protesting against these behaviors will at last make officials react and ask explaination from those who are responsible for such incidents.Do not worry,it may take too long but it will end well at last,if majority of your people insist on their demands in their correct way.

I'd be interested to know which country you're in. it's not like anybody's going to recognize you based on your country alone, bra.
but yeah NATO sucks. shouldn't have made a pact with the Devil.

thread is tl;dr (too lazy;dr)
I believe it has to do with anonymity and knowing that you are going to be able to escape the consequences, not NATO in particular. They are on duty in a foreign country, they have a leave after the day's work and they know that they won't be held accountable for most of the things they do.
Another example (I believe everyone have heard about it at school about every troops of every war possible) would be the mass rape of civilians of the occupied country. Soviets did it, nazis did it, US soldiers did it... They are/were just faceless troops. When people know that they can escape the consequences, - they are unstoppable at their actions.
Another example of this phenomena is the famous "stanford prison experiment." When random people, taken from the streets, who had no criminal record, started abusing other people.

You could be in Poland or something? It's very shitty your government doesn't do something about them. If their military poluce can't keep them in line, a few days behind bars would, plus the reprecussions of making that a known incident.

That's sounds terrible. He should be investigated as that's a pretty crappy thing to do, especially while being drunk.
